Beginning in the 8th century, Vikings voyaged from Scandinavia across an area stretching from North America.to the Black Sea. Using their famous longships to plunder and later colonise many coastal areas, they were fierce raiders.The design shows a Viking warrior gripping a Dane Axe in both hands. The weapons' forged heads are decorated to denote the user's wealth and status. Vikings wore woollen shirts and long cloth trousers with leather hobnailed boots, In battle they wore iron helmets, which in contrast to popular belief did not have horns.
