This dedicated 72mm Tamron Petal-Style Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC and SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) lenses. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
