Each of the hundreds of different levels gives you a limited range of tools to help them, from bridges to floating umbrellas. Without a mouse the controls are more awkward than they used to be but theres a useful zoom option and the ability to pause the game at any time. Theres also an online multiplayer mode and the chance to design your own levels. Most exciting moment: Blowing up your lemmings when you fail a level and watching the fireworks. As usual all the songs include the original music video (if they had one), giving visual accompaniment to classics such as The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston, Roxanne by The Police and Rocket Man by Elton John. Of course whether youll still love all these golden oldies after theyve been desecrated by a drunken SingStar session is another thing. Most exciting moment: The eight player, pass the microphone mode is still the best way to play SingStar and there arent really any new game modes here to beat it. There is a new feature that lets you compare your crooning with that of the real artist though, even if the game does seem to be rather kind in most of its comparisons. Review Morally ambiguous characters are all the rage in video games nowadays, but they always tend to be violent crime games. This is essentially a cross between the old Dungeon Keeper games and Nintendos Pikmin, where you play a Sauron-like dark lord in a fantasy world fill of so many corrupt and unpleasant people you often end up playing the de facto hero. Like Pikmin this is a mix of third person action game and a real-time strategy, the obvious difference being youre now in charge of a horde of goblins instead of cute little flower creatures. Although you directly control your bad self in the game youve only got some simple axe attacks and magic spells. Instead your main interaction with the world is via your goblin minions. You can either target an enemy and tell them to attack or control the biggest group directly with the right stick. One of the main currencies in the game then is lifeforce, with which you can instantly generate a new minion. This can be obtained from some enemies, and also sheep, but also from innocent villagers if you want to be really nasty. Although the game may lack moral complexities the capacity for strategy is more developed, as you eventually gain the ability to set ambushes and cast spells on minions. The games graphics are generally attractive, even with a jarringly short draw distance, but its the gameplay that really impresses here with something genuinely out of the ordinary in terms of both strategy and motivation.
