This guide offers a concise and lively introduction to the prehistory of the British Isles - covering the period from around 500,000 years ago when Palaeolithic hunters camped at Boxgrove in West Sussex, through the later Middle and New Stone Ages, and on to the Bronze Age and the start of the Iron Age. It describes how people first came to settle in Britain, and explores the rich mysteries of atmospheric ceremonial meeting places, barrows and stone circles. Also featured is the coming of the age of metals, when warrior-farmers created hilltop forts and settlements, stone brochs and lakeside villages - indeed the Celtic Britain that the Romans found, when they first landed on our shores. This book was written while the great artist was still alive. Pablo Picasso has for years been hidden by the glare of publicity and a success unique in the history of art.  Yet the real Picasso has been invisible to all but his intimates. One of these, Francoise Gilot, who lived with him for ten years, has now told her story - and his - with extraordinary insight and complete frankness. She reveals the real Picasso for the first time - a genius, temperamental, articulate, restless, a man who has never ceased to fight time and convention - and yet never ceased to create. Soft cover, fair condition.  The cover is creased and the paper is yellowing.  368 pages.

In 1828 he moved to Graaff-Reinet, and from there accompanied a party of hunters across the Orange River. On his return he bought the printing press of Godlonton and Stringfellow, which had previously been confiscated by Governor Donkin, and set up a Printing Works in Grahamstown, when only twenty years of age. The border Settlers immediately implored him to bring out a newspaper, and he decided to establish the Graham's Town Journal. Sixty Years Ago gives an interesting account of all that this involved, and includes many light-hearted anecdotes of life on the frontier in those perilous days. The first number appeared on December 30th 1831, and in 1832 Godlonton joined Meurant as partner, and was thus re-united with the printing press that had originally been his." L. H.
