On August 24, 1991, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine that opened a new era in the development of Ukraine as a sovereign state. On the obverse of the coin there are: the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine in the centre and the cruciform image of rushnyks (Ukrainian embroidered decorative towels); between the rushnyks there are portraits of the most outstanding personalities of different epochs of our history together with the legends: ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿, ¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿, ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿, ¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿; below against the background of a rushnyk there is indicated the coin minting year 2011 and the semicircular inscriptions: ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ (National Bank of Ukraine) (above) and coin denomination (below): on the gold coin - 100 ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ (100 hryvnias).On the reverse of the coin of 100 hryvnia denominations there is a conventionalized wreath formed by viburnum fruits and leaves; in the centre thereof the legend: 20 ¿¿¿¿¿ / ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ / ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ (20 years / of independence / of Ukraine); there are four ornamental rhombuses with the images of an airplane, combine harvester, ship and mine between them, which symbolize different branches of the economy; under the circle there is the inscription: 24 ¿¿¿¿¿¿ / 1991 ¿.
