Dombeya is a flowering plant genus of around 250 species. Traditionally included in the family Sterculiaceae, it is included in the expanded Malvaceae in the APG and most subsequent systematics. These plants are known by a number of vernacular names which sometimes, misleadingly, allude to the superficial similarity of flowering Dombeya to pears or hydrangeas, which are unrelated. They grow chiefly throughout Africa and Madagascar. The generic name Dombeya is in honour of Joseph Dombey, a French botanist and traveller in Peru and Chile (1742-1793).           Dombeya burgessiae commonly known as the Pink Wild Pear is a South African indigenous species. It is a garden favourite used by many gardeners and landscapers for its profusion of pink to white flowers borne in dense clusters which occur from late summer to early winter. The pretty flowers persist on the plant when they are finished flowering to provide an attractive display of light russet brown flowers which may also be used in dry flower arrangements.

If there is a universally popular wild mushroom, it may be Boletus Edulis. The French refer to them as cèpes, the Germans glorify them as steinpilz, and the Italians are wild about their porcini. Boletes are different from other mushrooms in that they have pores rather than gills on the underside of the cap. Spores are released by the thousands from the inner walls of hundreds of tiny round tubes making up the lower cap surface. This spore-bearing area resembles and acts like a sponge. The darkest cepes are intense and aromatic in smell but the whitest are very fine in taste. As a rule, 3 ounces of dried cepes will equal 1 pound of rehydrated mushrooms. Traditional European mushrooms Dried cepes have a deep, rich taste that dominates soups and sauces for polenta and pasta Cut mushrooms into desired sizes after soaking In general, the larger the pieces, the more flavor Add the remaining, soaking liquid to your food preparation by carefully pouring off the concentrated essence from the top, discarding any residual matter such as sand or soil at the bottom of the vessel

PICTURES ARE ENLARGED  PLEASE BE ADVISED, COLOUR MAY VARY SLIGHTLY DUE TO DIFFERENCES IN MONITORS. Pearl—natural or cultured—is a the birthstone for June, together with alexandrite and moonstone. Natural pearls form in the bodies, or mantle tissue, of certain mollusks, usually around a microscopic irritant, and always without human help of any kind. The growth of cultured pearls requires human intervention and care. Today, most of the mollusks used in the culturing process are raised specifically for that purpose, although some wild mollusks are still collected and used. There are four major types of cultured whole pearls:   Akoya—This type is most familiar to many jewelry customers. Japan and China both produce saltwater akoya cultured pearls. South Sea—Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are leading sources of these saltwater cultured pearls. Tahitian—Cultivated primarily around the islands of French Polynesia (the most familiar of these is Tahiti), these saltwater cultured pearls usually range from white to black. Freshwater—These are usually cultured in freshwater lakes and ponds. They’re produced in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colors. China and the US are the leading sources.   CHINESE FRESHWATER CULTURED PEARLS SIZE 9-10mm     SHAPE ROUND 85% BUTTON 10% SEMI-BAROQUE 5% MODIFIER CIRCLE COLOUR BODY - WHITE HUE - YELLOW OVERTONE LUSTRE EXCELLENT/GOOD     SURFACE CLEAN     NACRE QUALITY ACCEPTABLE
