This book is the third in a trilogy of books about aspects of flying training in the SAAF. The earlier books are FACTA NOSTRA VIVENT and GOING AROUND AGAIN by the same author. Langebaanweg has a long and important history as a SAAF air base. This book with its many pages of colour photographs is a modest attempt to record a small piece of history. It is not an official record but a scrapbook of memories. Chapters include: A short history of Langebaanweg Air Force Base, flying the Spitfire, the Vampire and the Impala MB 326M. Other  contributors include  memories  of retired  AFB Langebaanweg Commanding Officers, the  secret training  of Rhodesian pilots and over 100interesting, amusing and personal stories and reminiscences from people who remember  times and events from the post-war Spitfire days in the nineteen fifties  through  to the  departure  of  the  Impalas  in  1993. There are  tables  of accidents  (courtesy  historian  Steve Mclean) and  a full  history  of  the  SAAF Vampire (courtesy Geoff Timms and The De Havilland Society). A detailed paper (in Afrikaans by Sophia de Preez also details the early base history (courtesy Military Society). COMPILED BY: ANDREW EMBLETON First Published in June 2017, hardcover, 342 pages with colour photos.

Collins, London, 1941. 1st ed. Undated - probably 1st edition of 1941, in Land, Sea and Air series.  This is a charmingly written book published during World War II that explores Britain's peace-time flying, her sporting conquests, the RAF and the Navy and their aircraft during the contemporary war. Generously illustrated, this book is not often found in its original dust-jacket.   A tidy copy in tight binding; dust jacket worn, with short tears. One large closed tear on front cover.  Used - Good hardback in Good price-clipped dust jacket. Unpaginated.

1997. Hard  cover with dust cover, 691 pages. Very good condition. Over 1kg. "[An] awesomely scholarly study.... The importance of this book is not only in its intrinsic interest, or its usefulness as a superb resource, but its demonstration that [Britain's] story cannot be told without a thorough knowledge of what happened at sea."¿Alan Judd,  Sunday Times  [London] Throughout the chronicle of Britain's history, one factor above all others has determined the fate of kings, the security of trade, and the integrity of the realm. Without its navy, Britain would have been a weakling among the nations of Europe, could never have built or maintained the empire, and in all likelihood would have been overrun by the armies of Napoleon and Hitler. Now, for the first time in nearly a century, a prominent naval historian has undertaken a comprehensive account of the history and traditions of this most essential institution. N. A. M. Rodger has produced a superb work, combining scholarship with narrative, that demonstrates how the political and social history of Britain has been inextricably intertwined with the strength-or weakness-of her seapower. From the early military campaigns against the Vikings to the defeat of the great Spanish Armada in the reign of Elizabeth I, this volume touches on some of the most colorful characters in British history. It also provides fascinating details on naval construction, logistics, health, diet, and weaponry. "A splendid book. It combines impressively detailed research with breadth of perception....[Rodger] has prepared an admirable historical record that will be read and reread in the years ahead."¿ Times  [London] 24 pages of illustrations
