I bought this guitar on Denmark Street, London, just before I recently moved to Cape Town. It has basically seen no use as I play entirely acoustic instruments these days. It's just been sitting in its case in my studio and been played only a handful of times for recording purposes. I am selling because I have too many instruments and can't carry them all with me any more. Now, this is one beautiful guitar. The image of a well-worn guitar has long been rather iconic, but of course a vintage/relic Fender or Gibson will set you back 5 times the price, if you can even find decent one. Both these companies for the past several years have now been making worn-in versions of their classic line-ups, which is what tempted me. Particularly after reading all the great reviews online. The Road Worn series in particular definitely look the part, and I do not exaggerate when I say this is the best looking Fender I've ever played and was certainly nicest they had in a store of hundreds (Wunju Guitars). The nitrocellulose finish is just fantastic, and really brings out the grain of the wood. No better finish for a guitar I think. The play-ability is also fantastic. A nice low action with a smooth fast neck means you can get around the fret board with ease. I actually played this guitar against the higher end fenders in the store (several custom shops and some deluxes) and found this guitar to be just as responsive. Fender have such a consistent build process these days that you no longer need to spend massive amounts of cash for a high quality instrument. The sound is also brilliant. Three Tex Mex single coil pickups with Alnico magnets (the same pups Stevie Ray used) give you incredibly warm and smooth leads whilst retaining the delicate articulation that made the 60's Stratocasters legendary. Coupled with a nitrocellulose finish, the sound really blooms and gives more sustain. The guitar just seems more vibrant and responsive, and the vibrations through the wood are more noticeable than with the a standard strat, even the MIA deluxes. This could also be due to the additional wearing of the finish—a great side effect of the distress treatment. Fender really did an excellent job in crafting this instrument. It may not beat its Custom Shop Relic cousins, but it can certainly hang in there with them. I implore you to read many of the reviews around online - the guitar was exceptionally well received. I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp which you are welcome to come and try through. I live in Observatory. I bought this guitar for the equivalent of 18,000 in London.
