A good collectible book on South African History.   The sinking of the  Mendi  is the central episode in  Black Valour. The rest of the book presents a full picture of the South African Native Labour Contingent, recruited in 1916 and 1917 to support the Allied armies in France. Though disappointed that they were not allowed to bear arms, more than 20,000 men volunteered for service overseas. I have a set of 2 antique cast iron shopfront poles that came from Oxford Street in East London. I have never seen any other like them. History of the poles is that they were from a shop in Oxford Street opposite the City Hall. All in original condition and very heavy. They are 2.460m tall. R5000each or R9000 for the set.
