This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 12 working days Visions of The Who is a beautifully presented collection of previously unpublished photos of The Who from their golden era with the ultimate line-up of Townshend, Daltrey, Entwistle and Moon. Indeed, all the concert photos within come from the band's last two years of gigs with the inimitable Keith Moon and are from the archive of former Record Mirror photographer Steve Emberton. With the exception of a handful they have all been scanned from the original negatives, specifically for this book and have never been published before. Having spent most of '74 away from the stage whilst working on the film Tommy, the band returned to touring in October '75 in support of their then latest album, The Who By Numbers that also spawned the hit single 'Squeeze Box'. The eleven UK concerts culminated with three shows at Wembley's Empire Pool and Steve Emberton was there at two of them. The following year the band continued to tour in promotion of The Who By Numbers, albeit mainly in America. However they performed three UK concerts in early summer - all outdoor events at football grounds. The first in London at Charlton Athletic's The Valley, went down in Who history as it resulted in the band being declared the loudest in the world as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records. This was followed by a gig at Celtic Park in Glasgow. Steve Emberton was there again for the third and final gig at The Vetch Field in Swansea. It would prove to be the last paid gig the band performed to a UK audience with Keith Moon in the band and Steve captured it. In addition to this Steve also took photos of both Keith Moon and John Entwistle outside of the gig environment and this collection includes candid photos of the Who's rhythm section in more relaxed settings with the ones of Entwistle taken in West London in November '76 and with his father in August '77 at Ramport Studios. The Keith Moon shots were taken in October or November '77 at Chrysalis Records. Completing the book is a foreword by Tony Klinger, author of the Who tome, Twilight Of The Gods and co-producer of The Kids Are Alright film. Features Summary Visions of The Who is a beautifully presented collection of previously unpublished photos of the original Who by Record Mirror's Steve Emberton.  Books and wrappers in very good condition - Previously belonged to Stuart Hendry, Longtime History Master at Pretoria Boys High and all 4 have his signature and bookplate inside - Stunning wrappers now in removable transparent sleeves.  >>>    Cassell and Company, Ltd., London, First edition, first printing. This is a jacketed, British first edition set of Churchill's sweeping history and last great work. Churchill's four volume epic, A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, was published between 1956 and 1958. The work traces a great historical arc from Roman Britain through the end of the Nineteenth Century, ending with the death of Queen Victoria. Perhaps not coincidentally, this is the very year that saw Churchill conclude his first North American lecture tour, take his first seat in Parliament, and begin to make history himself. The work itself was two decades in the making. The Churchillian conceptions that underpinned it were lifelong. The cultural commonality and vitality of English-speaking peoples animated Churchill throughout his life, from his Victorian youth in an ascendant British Empire to his twilight in the midst of the American century. Churchill began A History of the English-Speaking Peoples in the 1930s, completing a draft of "about half a million words" which was set aside when Churchill returned to the Admiralty and to war in September 1939. The work was fittingly interrupted by an unprecedented alliance among the English-speaking peoples during the Second World War - an alliance Churchill personally did much to cultivate, cement, and sustain. The interruption continued as Churchill bent his literary efforts to his six-volume history, The Second World War, and then his remaining political energies to his second and final premiership from 1951-1955. This first edition is regarded as one of the most beautiful productions of Churchill's works, with tall red volumes and striking, illustrated dust jackets.     *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book   – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days Located in Rochester, New York, Eastman Kodak was one of the world's leading manufacturers of photographic film for 125 years. Following the company's declaration of bankruptcy in 2012, photographers Alex Webb (born 1952) and Rebecca Norris Webb (born 1956) traveled to Rochester to capture images of the city during the twilight of Kodak's existence. "Memory City" responds to the uncertain future of Kodak film as a medium by presenting a view of Rochester that reflects the city's prosperous past and current troubles. Usually known for his color work, for this project Alex Webb used his final rolls of Kodachrome--a color film now only able to be processed in black and white--to capture Rochester's fading grandeur. He also photographed the city's streets in digital color. Rebecca's photographs consist of color portraits and still-lifes of Rochester's women, both young and old, taken using Portra--one of Kodak's last films. For this publication, the artists have also created a timeline of Rochester's cultural history, tracing the evolution of the complex, once-vibrant city. This book also contains quotations from many of the famous writers and thinkers who have been connected to Rochester and its environs, including women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony, abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and poets John Ashbery and Ilya Kaminsky.
