Call of Duty 2: The Big Red One (GameCube) Platform: GameCube Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Review There will probably never be a definitive World War II action game, for the simple fact that so many new ones are released each year. Call of Duty 2: Big Red One should certainly be the last word on the current console formats though--which means something at least. Rather confusingly this has nothing to do with the subtitle-less Call of Duty 2 on PC and Xbox 360. Whereas that game has the usual mix of three different nationalities of soldier to control, Big Red One has you playing the same soldier throughout the whole game. You do get to do quite a bit of sight seeing though with missions in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Germany. The Big Red One of the title is the nickname of a famous American infantry division and by sticking with them throughout the whole game you do get a much better sense of camaraderie than previous Call of Duty games. Unfortunately it also means that the game seems perilously close to the already excellent Brothers in Arms, except without the strategy bits. No war game ever seems to do its action quite like Call of Duty though and the set pieces here tread that difficult line between cinematic bombast and harrowing realism perfectly. Big Red One wont have the same impact on the gaming world as the first Call of Duty games, but it nevertheless looks like having a very good chance of being a better game. -- Harrison Dent This preview is based on an incomplete version of the game; features or problems mentioned above may not appear in the finished game. Manufacturer's Description Experience the adrenaline rush and harsh realities of war as never before, get to know your squadmates, and fight alongside them through an epic story during the most harrowing moments of WWII. As a part of America's most decorated and heroic fighting unit, The Big Red One, you'll work together with your squad to accomplish a variety of combat missions spanning North Africa, Italy, and Nazi-occupied Western Europe. The hallmark cinematic intensity of Call of Duty returns with a more complete gameplay experience than ever. Experience a wide variety of missions on land, sea, and in the air, with the aid of over three dozen authentic American, Italian, French, and German weapons. Charge into battle together as Allied and Axis planes duel overhead, artillery explosions shake the ground and choke the air, and bullets and shrapnel streak past you and your squadmates. Experience war-torn Europe and Africa, from the blistering desert expanses of Tunisia and Libya to the beautiful yet deadly countrysides of Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany. Live a soldier's story, deeper than any you've experienced before: You are thrust into the role and story of a member of The Big Red One, America's most heroic and decorated infantry division. Experience the camaraderie of a single tight-knit army squad, bound together through the chaos of battle over the course of the entire game. Yes, you will suffer casualties; but you must not suffer defeat. Know your squad like never before: Through all-new AI and animation, your allies (and your enemies) just got a lot smarter. Your squad will now make better use of environmental cover and tactical Maneuvers, such as flanking, envelopment, and fire-and-maneuver behaviors. Hear your allies reacting to the events on the battlefield with contextually accurate battle chatter. Online Multiplayer Action: Go online for intense Axis vs. Allies team-based multiplayer action on Xbox Live..

Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 (U) Platform: Windows 98, Windows 95 Condition: Pre-Owned/Used in Very Good Condition This Title Also Available As: New: Brand New and Sealed games available Please get in touch for information on these options. Pre-owned games supplied with applicable serial keys. However - please note: Any single use keys or activation codes may have already been used/redeemed. Product Information Devastating weapons such as Soviet Cloning Vats and Allied Time-travel Your arsenal includes Prism Tanks, Desolators and Mind Readers Veterancy capabilities Play either side in the full solo play, or as one of the 9 nations 8 modes of play Utilise over 80 units and structures Product Description Devastating weapons such as Soviet Cloning Vats and Allied Time-travel Your arsenal includes Prism Tanks, Desolators and Mind Readers Veterancy capabilities Play either side in the full solo play, or as one of the 9 nations 8 modes of play Utilise over 80 units and structures Review Sticking firm to the old "if it ain't broke" philosophy, Westwood Studios conjures up memories of the original Command & Conquer games with Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. The game is set just a few years after the events of the original C&C: Red Alert, and opens with a surprise Soviet invasion of the US mainland. Playing as the startled Americans, you must cobble together a resistance and beat the invaders back into the sea. Playing as the Soviets, you must quickly establish control of your new domain, wiping out all opposition you meet. Red Alert 2 is very similar to the original Red Alert, with some visual enhancements and gameplay improvements brought in from the recent Command & Conquer: Tiberian Su game. You still lead a small group of infantry and armoured units in most missions and you still have to assemble a base of operations in order to accomplish just about anything. This time around, however, you'll have a slew of new units to build and command in the field--most of which are pretty slick. The American Prism Tank, for example, can take out numerous enemy units with a single, branching attack. On the Soviet side, Tesla Troopers and Psychics help make ground troops a formidable asset. Another nice addition to the game is the ability to garrison troops inside buildings. Because much of the fighting is on city streets, it helps to give your troops some cover from time to time. Also, there are a number of special buildings that provide unique advantages once occupied by engineer units. The airport allows you to call in air strikes, for example, while oil derricks provide a resource boost for your war machine. Multiplayer support is still the calling card of this series, and fans of past C&C games will not be disappointed by Red Alert 2's multiplayer options. The basic free-for-all mode that the original Red Alert made famous is still intact, but the alternative multiplayer modes are the real treat. In Unholy Alliance, players get access to both American and Soviet tech trees, while the naval war variant starts each player off on a small island. In addition, the game includes special cooperative campaigns. There's no denying Red Alert 2 's charm, despite the lack of a funky 3-D engine and the game's reliance on video cut scenes to tell the story. For fast-paced, real-time strategy action that focuses on quick, intense firefights on American soil, no other game holds a candle to C&C: Red Alert 2.-- Michael Ryan.com
