The Alnus genus commonly known as Alder belongs to the birch family Betulaceae. The genus comprises about 30 species of monoecious trees and shrubs, a few reaching a large size, distributed throughout the North Temperate Zone with a few species extending into Central America and the northern Andes. The catkins of some alder species have a degree of edibility, and may be rich in protein. Reported to have a bitter and unpleasant taste, they are more useful for survival purposes.            The wood of certain alder species is often used to smoke various food items, especially salmon and other seafood. Alnus cordata is a handsome, fast-growing large tree, sometimes seen in parks and gardens. It also makes a beautiful bonsai specimen. The Italian Alder is often regarded as the finest of the species. Native to southern Italy, the Italian Alder has an attractive conical shape, providing good winter interest, and glossy leaves. Its tolerance of both a wide range of soils and of urban pollution makes it a useful tree for the reclamation of derelict sites as well as a specimen tree for parks and woodland. Tolerant of a wide range of soils, including chalk, the Italian Alder also does well on compacted urban sites and derelict land. It copes well with pollution in towns, and its resistance to wind makes it useful for screening and hedges.

Alnus glutinosa is a popular tree of moist to wet soils. Commonly known as Black Alder it is a moderate to fast-growing deciduous tree that usually grows to 12m to 15m in height with a 6m to 12m spread and a 30cm to 45cm trunk but is capable of reaching 24m in height in the woods. Pyramidal when young, Black Alder often has multiple stems, making it ideal for use as a screen or bonsai specimen, the trees eventually becoming more rounded or oval as they mature. The two- to four-inch-wide, dark green, roundish leaves with toothed edges and pale undersides are joined in spring by rather insignificant male and female flowers. Foliage remains green well into autumn. It is the fruits that are most interesting—small, nutlike, 2.5cm "cones" that persist throughout autumn and winter, long after the darkening leaves have fallen. These fruits, along with the attractive, dark brown, furrowed bark and multi-stemmed growth habit, make Black Alder an attractive landscape specimen throughout the winter. The fruits are food for a variety of wildlife.

New Zealand Spinach Tetragonia tetragonoides   60 days — 'New Zealand Spinach' can be grown as a perennial in warmer climates but is typically grown as an annual. It is not related to true spinach but the leaves taste similar to, and some think better than, spinach. It does not bolt in hot weather nor does it typically turn bitter and it is valued because of its high vitamin C content. 'New Zealand' spinach, by its very nature, tends to be difficult to start and have low germination rates. The federal minimum standard is 40%. Soaking seeds in warm water for two to eight hours prior to sowing may help soften the seed coat and improve germination results. Additionally, it can take a couple of weeks for germination to occur (depending on weather). Keep soil moist until germination occurs. Flavor and texture do benefit from ample composting, mulching and watering. 'New Zealand Spinach is a very old heirloom introduced into England in 1772 by Sir Joseph Banks. It was reportedly discovered during the South Seas expedition of Captain Cook.

Stevia rebaudiana is a plant species in the genus Stevia of the sunflower family (Asteraceae), commonly known as sweetleaf, sweet leaf, sugarleaf, which is widely grown for its sweet leaves, the source of sweetener products known as stevia. As a sweetener and sugar substitute, stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar, and some of its extracts may have a bitter or licorice-like aftertaste at high concentrations. With its steviol glycoside extracts having up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, stevia has attracted attention with the rise in demand for low-carbohydrate, low-sugar sweeteners. Because stevia has a negligible effect on blood glucose it is attractive to people on carbohydrate-controlled diets.   Please familiarise yourself with the shipping info below Shipping Rates are as listed below Approximate processing and transit times are listed below PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA

Nigella sativa is an annual flowering plant, native to south and southwest Asia. It grows to 2030 cm (7.911.8 in) tall, with finely divided, linear (but not thread-like) leaves. The flowers are delicate, and usually coloured pale blue and white, with five to ten petals. The fruit is a large and inflated capsule composed of three to seven united follicles, each containing numerous seeds. The seed is used as a spice. In English, Nigella sativa seed is variously called fennel flower, nutmeg flower, black caraway, Roman coriander, and black cumin. Other names used, sometimes misleadingly, are onion seed and black sesame, both of which are similar-looking, but unrelated. It is used as part of the spice mixture paanch phoran or panch phoron (meaning a mixture of five spices) and by itself in a great many recipes in Bengali cookery and most recognizably in naan bread. The Turkish name rek otu literally means "bun's herb" from its use in flavouring the rek buns. Such braided-dough buns are widespread in the cuisines of Turkey and its neighbours (see Tsoureki). In Bosnian, the Turkish name for N. sativa is spelled as ?urekot. The seed is used in Bosnia, and particularly its capital Sarajevo, to flavour pastries (Bosnian: somun) often baked on Muslim religious holidays. Nigella sativa has a pungent bitter taste and smell. It is used primarily in confectionery and liquors. Peshawari naan is, as a rule, topped with kalonji seeds. Nigella is also used in Armenian string cheese, a braided string cheese called majdouleh or majdouli in the Middle East. 1 Micron Sediment Filter removes particles from the water down to 1 micron Premium KDF Filter contains activated carbon mixed with KDF. The KDF has anti-bacterial properties and prevents the growth of bacteria within the filter, thus extending its life to twice that of standard activated carbon Ultra Filtration Membrane (UF) Filter is a physical barrier that will not allow bacteria to pass through. The membrane is made from an organic substance and thus contains a preservative to keep it in optimal condition. This preservative needs to be flushed from the system before drinking water is produced Ultra Violet (UV) Light; uses UV Rays at a specific Frequency to damage to the DNA of Bacteria and Micro-Organisms, preventing them from performing biological functions such as breeding and feeding. The UV Light provides you with an additional barrier against bacteria content The Ultra Violet Light's Bulb Needs to be replaced once every 12 months (8000 to 9000 Hours) irrespective of the quality of the source water. Flushing the system: This is done by running water through the system until the preservative cannot be detected in a sample glass of water. The preservative leaves a film on the water and also has a bitter taste. If you are seeing this in your water after a new installation, flush and test until no hints of the preservative can be detected. Please note if there is a white colour to the water that settles out towards the top of the glass, this is most likely caused by tiny air bubbles in the water. This should subside over time as excess air in the system is removed. The air bubbles in the water will not affect the quality of your drinking water. Filter lifespan is determined by the quality of the source water that runs through them.  So if your source water is of a very bad quality, your filters will be doing more work to clean the water that is flowing through them. Thus depleting sooner than filters running under good water conditions. So, in short, each end-users filter requirements will be different as their source waters are different. We advise you check your filters on a monthly basis after initial install to get a feel for the quality of the water in your area.
