Silent Hill 3 (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New This Title Also Available As: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition games available Please get in touch for information on these options. Product Information PEGI Rating Ages 18 and over. Product Description Silent Hill 3 continues the series' trademark brand of psychological horror and terrifying gameplay. As a teenage girl named Heather, players must explore and unravel the mysterious connection between the god-forsaken town and her inner fears. The game features enhanced graphical detail, a more complex storyline and even more grotesque monsters than the previous games. Review Play Silent Hill 3 and you'll never scoff at anyone that admits they got scared by a video game again: this isn't survival horror, it's full on survival terror. Away from the shlock B-movie stylings of the Resident Evil series, the Silent Hill games have carved, with a particularly rusty machete, a rather different niche for themselves with a line in taut psychological horror that really gets under your skin rather than just providing a few cheap shocks. The games' primary means of achieving this is via their superb graphics and sound which immediately create an oppressive atmosphere where you're constantly in fear of exactly what manner of evil will happen next. Unfortunately veterans of the series will know that more often than not; nothing much ever does happen next, except maybe the appearance of one of the small number of stock enemies. They'll also be perturbed by the constant recycling of backdrops in this third edition--particularly in yet another visit to the Silent Hill hospital. The game does stop pulling its punches for the especially disturbing last third of the adventure though, and anyone new to Silent Hill is likely to be scared silly for its entire duration. The game's other faults, such as a clunky control system and storyline are (for no apparent reason) stocks of the survival horror trade so it would take a particularly surly gamer to deny the game's obvious quality. It'll also take someone with concrete underpants to remain unfazed by the whole thing, particularly the church with the bleeding walls... -- David Jenkins

Defenders of Ardania (DoA) is a next-generation tower defense game set in the rich fantasy world of Majesty, but with a twist. Besides the addictive core mechanics of placing towers to stop advancing enemy units, DoA also allows players to take on the role of the attackers seeking to conquer the enemy base. DoA's innovative new game concepts include light RTS elements, taking the popular genre to the next level. Players must oversee unit production and upgrades while assembling the most effective army from one of three playable races, each with unique locations, towers, and units. However, without magic, a fantasy game is little more than a toothless lion (or dragon, rather), so a wide range of spells will be available for players to decimate their enemies and protect their forces. Although DoA includes a single-player portion, the focus of the game is undoubtedly multiplayer, where two to four players can take each other on or compete against AI opponents via Internet, LAN, or PSN. The multiplayer component offers three different game modes where players can assume either the defensive or offensive sides – or both!

Army Men World War: Land, Sea, Air Region: PAL Platform: PS1 Condition: Very Good Condition, Case slightly damaged   Army Men World War: Land, Sea, Air begins its assault rather plainly: The Tan army is up to no good and it's up to you to stop it. To achieve this goal, the game offers three modes: single-player, boot camp, and two-player capture the flag. Using a variety of targets and weapon choices, the boot camp mode acclimates you to the game's controls, which haven't changed since the last Army Men game. The two-player mode lets you and a friend go at it on a few of the game's maps, stealing one another's flags while dodging CPU-controlled bots. While the boot camp and two-player modes are nice, they're throwaways compared to the game's single-player experience. Eschewing the usual run-and-shoot tactics of previous Army Men games, Army Men World War: Land, Sea, Air combines third-person fighting, first-person sniping, Metal Gear Solid-style sneaking, and vehicular combat into a vicarious wartime romp.

Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition (PC) Platform: PC Edition: Standard Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: PlayStation3, Xbox 360 Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Platform: PC  |  Edition: Standard  |  Format: Box Assassin's Creed is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. Shrouded in secrecy and feared for their ruthlessness, the Assassins intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. Players, assuming the role of the main character Altair, will have the power to throw their immediate environment into chaos and to shape events during this pivotal moment in history. Assassin's Creed merges technology, game design, theme, and emotions into a world where you instigate chaos and become a vulnerable, yet powerful, agent of change. Be an Assassin: Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history's deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape. Realistic and Responsive Environments: Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests. Action with a New Dimension - Total Freedom: Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives. Relive the Epic Times of the Crusades: Assassin's Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience, and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world. Intense Action Rooted in Reality: Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels. Next-Gen Gameplay: The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment, and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic. Review Its easy to see why there was so much fighting amongst the console manufacturers to try and make this game a format exclusive. Where early launch titles may have disappointed this game not only looks like a next generation game but it plays like it too. Taken at face value the story casts you as an Arabic fighter in 1191, out to assassinate the nine Western leaders of the Third Crusade. There is more to the story than that though making it more than simple historical adventure it first seems. Since its developed by many of the same team behind Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, its no surprise to find the game using many of the same ideas. With the bold claim that you can climb on or over anything in the game world that sticks out more than two inches, this allows incredible freedom of movement, with a style of acrobatics heavily influenced by Parkour/free running. The game also innovates in terms of combat, with each of the face buttons controlling a different area of the body, rather like a marionette. As such one button controls the feet, one your open hand, one your weapon hand and the other your head. As an assassin stealth plays an important role in the game too, but here its often a case of hiding in plain sight as you mill around inside large crowds of people. Everyone will react to you realistically though, so if you go around pushing people out of the way, or even killing them, the crowd will react and report you. With stunning graphics and genuinely innovative gameplay this is destined to be one of the most important releases of the year. HARRISON DENT

Age of Empires III (PC) Platform: Windows XP Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Age of Empires III will offer gamers the next level of realism, with advanced battle physics and unparalleled visual detail. The new game picks up where Age of Empires II: Age of Kings left off, placing gamers in the position of a European power determined to explore, colonize and conquer the New World. This time period features stunning scenes, from towering European cathedrals to courageous tribes of Native Americans, and spectacular combat with Industrial Age units like rifled infantry, cavalry and tall ships bristling with cannons. Age of Empires III will once again demonstrate Ensemble Studios reputation for excellence and innovation in the real-time strategy (RTS) genre. The game will set a new standard for visual quality and amaze players with detail never before seen in an RTS. Age of Empires III will also excite strategy gamers with new game-play elements, including the concept of a ¿¿¿Home City,¿¿¿ new civilizations, units, technologies and an immersive new single-player campaign that will span three generations. Otras caracter¿¿sticas: Compatible operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Developer: Ensemble Studios Language version: ENG Media types supported: CD Minimum RAM: 256 MB Minimum hard disk space: 2000 MB Minimum processor: 1.4GHz Minimum video card memory: 64 MB Review With all the talk of next generation consoles its somewhat ironic that the most graphically impressive new game is actually PC real-time strategy title Age of Empires III. The last game in the series was a rather clinical looking 2D isometric game but this new iteration features some of the most complex, organic looking 3D graphics ever seen on any system. Thankfully the gameplay appears just as developed as you take control of a civilisation from around the time that Age of Empires II left off in the 16th century and continues up to 1850, as you battle to take control of the New World. Gameplay is actually split between the Americas though and your home city back in Europe, which you must also maintain and upgrade in order to keep the populace happy. The most exciting element though is undoubtedly the new combat system, where the dull and mechanical "tank rushes" of the previous games have been replaced with stunning looking battles of gunpowder and sword blades as you fight angry natives and rival colonisers. As is demanded of any PC game nowadays theres also a cool sounding multiplayer mode, with the eight different civilizations you can control allowing for a large variety of different play styles. Thats if you can actually gather your wits enough to form a strategy and stop ogling the frankly incredible looking graphics. -- Harrison Dent This preview is based on an incomplete version of the game; features or problems mentioned above may not appear in the finished game.

Halo (Xbox) Platform: Xbox Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information Action-shooter game with vehicular combat elements You play as a trooper thrust into a hostile alien world Deploy a variety of enemy flyers and on-ground buggies Battle it out in split-screen deathmatch mode For 1 to 4 players, also supports LAN play Product Description Review More often than not, when a game is in development for over three years it does not live up to the hype. Bungie's Halo is the exception. Not only does the game live up to the hype--it greatly exceeds it. This sci-fi first-person shooter is a nearly perfect blend of gameplay, graphics, and sound. The story revolves around the conflict between humans and an alien race known as the Covenant. The aliens have discovered a powerful artefact--on the ring-shaped planet called Halo--that will shift the balance of power and it's up to the player to stop them. In addition to several first-person shooter levels there are numerous opportunities to engage in vehicular combat. Both the enemy and ally artificial intelligence are extremely impressive. Enemies will use the terrain and layout to put you in tight spots. Allies will know when to cover and aid you. For instance, if you hop into a jeep an ally will know to jump in and man the turret on the back of it. Graphics are exquisitely detailed, but only move at 30 frames per second rather than 60. The sound effects and voice-acting are superb. The level design is among the best ever; most of the game is engaging and challenging without being frustrating. There's also high replay value thanks to the built-in single-player, cooperative, and death match modes. Much like the outstanding GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64, Halo raises the bar for console first-person shooters. It will be the title that all console action games are measured against for years to come. --Raymond M Padilla

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (PS) Platform: PlayStation Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information Unleash the power to defend the Trade Federation battle droids. Use wits to overcome puzzles and outsmart your foes. Explore beautiful lands. Interact with hundreds of characters. Product Description Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. You have been called to set things right. In Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, use the Force--and your wits--to overcome challenges at every turn. Interact with hundreds of characters as you search for the clues that will defeat the Trade Federation and their evil plot. The fate of the galaxy is in your hands, Padawan. Don't blow it. Take on the roles of Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka. Solve dozens of challenging puzzles suitable for novice and veteran action-adventurers. Your choice of weapons includes lightsabres, droid stunners, Naboo blasters and Force Push powers. Travel to the exotic locales of Episode I--from the majestic cities of Naboo, to the denizen-filled streets of Mos Espa, to the bustling skylanes of Coruscant. Battle hordes of enemies including destroyer droids and the evil Darth Maul. The captivating non-linear story line lets you engage in side quests that will take you through the film-and beyond. Review As the room fills with poison gas, you and Qui-Gon race down the hall and stop in front of five Trade Federation droids. Your lightsabre hums to life as you and your master block and reflect the hail of blaster bolts, leaving the offending droids in pieces. As your enemies grow to seemingly hopeless numbers, you extend your hand in a Jedi force push. Again all that is left are fried circuits. Leaping over chasms, destroying droid armies, saving entire planets is all in a day's work when you are a Jedi. And we all want to be Jedi... right? In Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace, you assume the roles of Obi Wan, Qui-Gon, Queen Amidala and Captain Panaka as they struggle to save Naboo and defeat the Trade Federation's sinister agents. Exciting battles, terrific sound effects and a true-to-the-movie storyline make this game a treat for any Star Wars fan. The graphics could be sharper, but the overall Star Wars experience is not diminished by this fact. Instead, the gameplay itself takes you away from an immersive Star Wars feel: it's just strange to see a Jedi use a rocket launcher. Most of us would hope that lightsabres would cut through just about anything, but sadly this is not the case--some robots even need to be hit multiple times before they go down. And it's just sad to see a Jedi's progress in an outdoor level blocked by simple shrubbery. Still, like the movie itself, Star Wars: Episode One, The Phantom Menace overcomes its minor flaws to deliver a thrilling experience. --Allen Stewart Pros: You get to use a lightsabre Dual shock controllers vibrate with the sabre's movement Great music video of Duel of the Fates included Cons: Graphics could be better Voice-overs are rather weak

Halo (Xbox) Platform: Xbox Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Halo (Xbox) Review More often than not, when a game is in development for over three years it does not live up to the hype.

Product Information Highly detailed 3D gaming environment New first-person perspective mode during battles makes you feel you are in the fights 180 degree turning makes it easier to avoid oncoming zombies Brand new footage explains some of the mysteries and insidious plots surrounding Wesker from the original Resident Evil Product Description Platform: PlayStation 2 | Edition: Veronica X Resident Evil Code: Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for Europe, headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation, in search of her brother Chris and to solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation's secretive activities. In her search she is captured and sent to an isolated prison on a desolate Island. While it remains unexplained how Chris, one of the original S.T.A.R.S. team members, appears in Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, players will be reacquainted with his iron will and munitions expertise to seek the truth behind the dreaded Umbrella biotoxins. In Resident Evil Code: Veronica X players control Claire at the beginning of the game and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to stop Umbrella's devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (RWS). Now when Claire opens doors, solves puzzles, stores items or ammunition, they remain in the same spot when playing the second half of the game as Chris. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic character, Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line. Flesh-eating zombies, horrific beasts and even stranger mutations have spread on a global scale! Just how far does this twisted conspiracy extend? What is Umbrella Corporation really up to? And who is behind this bio-tech terror? To her horror, Claire discovers Umbrella Corporation's insidious activities are not isolated to the remote, mid-western city. No. Something much larger is going on here. Review It's rather ironic that Resident Evil Code: Veronica X has rejuvenated the PS2's fortunes in Japan, because it's essentially identical to the original, year-old version on the Dreamcast. Code: Veronica is, however, a superb game that deserves as large an audience as possible, lest its heady mix of action, puzzles and lots and lots of zombies goes unappreciated by the masses. Unlike previous games in the series Code: Veronica is portrayed entirely in 3-D--although the atmospheric camera maintains an essentially static viewpoint for most of the time. The amazing graphics are obviously the main draw but you'll also find that some of the more irritating foibles of the series have been ironed out--such as the scarcity of ammo and camera angles that make combat unfairly difficult. The "X" at the end of the game's name indicates that this is a special edition, but the new stuff is limited to a couple of extra camera angles and some new cut scenes with uber-baddy Wesker. In terms of extras the most interesting aspect of the package is actually a demo of the forthcoming Devil May Cry. But unless you've already got the Dreamcast version, buy this for the game and treat the other stuff as a bonus because survival horror doesn't get any better than this. -- David Jenkins
