PILOTS GOGGLES SOVIET AVIATION WW2 TYPE CLEAR CURVED GLASS GENUINE 1970 RUSSIAN FROM MILITARY WAREHOUSE OLD STOCK. WITH ORIGINAL PAPER BOX & INSTRUCTION. These are unused surplus and still come in the original brown card box (slightly damaged) with the Russian language instruction. These are made from molded rubber with a felt inner for comfort and the eye pieces are made from metal with glass lenses. This style was apparently still in use in the 70's as this is when these were made. A pair of these goggles were also worn by Brad Pitt in the recent Hollywood blockbuster Fury, after finding them much more comfortable than the US ones. Please be aware that the colour of the inner felt and head band on these may vary from the pictures shown.

Bridge of Spies is the true story of three extraordinary characters — William Fisher, alias Rudolf Abel, a British born KGB agent arrested by the FBI in New York City and jailed as a Soviet superspy for trying to steal America's most precious nuclear secrets; Gary Powers, the American U-2 pilot who was captured when his plane was shot down while flying a reconnaissance mission over the closed cities of central Russia; and Frederic Pryor, a young American graduate student in Berlin mistakenly identified as a spy, arrested and held without charge by the Stasi, East Germany's secret police. By weaving the three strands of this story together for the first time, Giles Whittell masterfully portrays the intense political tensions and nuclear brinkmanship that brought the United States and Soviet Union so close to a hot war in the early 1960s. He reveals the dramatic lives of men drawn into the nadir of the Cold War by duty and curiosity, and the tragicomedy of errors that eventually induced Khrushchev to send missiles to Castro. Two of his subjects — the spy and the pilot — were the original seekers of weapons of mass destruction. The third, an intellectual, fluent in German, unencumbered by dependents, and researching a Ph.D. thesis on the foreign trade system of the Soviet bloc, seemed to the Stasi precisely the sort of person the CIA should have been recruiting. He was not. In over his head in the world capital of spying, he was wrongly charged with espionage and thus came to the Agency's notice by a more roundabout route. The three men were rescued against daunting odds by fate and by their families, and then all but forgotten. Yet they laid bare the pathological mistrust that fueled the arms race for the next 30 years.

It was named in imitation of the Golden Gate of Constantinople. The structure was dismantled in the Middle Ages, leaving few vestiges of its existence. It was completely rebuilt by the Soviet authorities in 1982, though no images of the original gates have survived. This decision has been immensely controversial, since there are many competing reconstructions of what the medieval gate might have looked like ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

It is the last film featuring the trio of the "Coward" (Georgy Vitsin), the "Fool" (Yuri Nikulin), and the "Pro" (Yevgeny Morgunov), a group of bumbling antiheroes similar in some ways to the Three Stooges. The film premiered in Moscow on April 1, 1967. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

During the Soviet times it was known as Detskoye Selo.In the 17th century, the estate belonged to a Swedish noble. Its original Finnish name is usually translated as "a higher ground". Max Vasmer, on the other hand, derives this toponym from the Finnish word for island, "saari": "Saaren kyl?" = "Island village". In any case, the Finnish name came to be pronounced by the 18th-century Russians as "Sarskoye Selo", later changed to "Tsarskoye Selo" (i.e., "the royal village"). ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
