DAVID ANDERSON "ON SAFARI" THE SOURCE FOR SAFARIS IN EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA David Anderson is an expert on safari design and planning with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his knowledge of safari destinations. He  became captivated by Africa after a five-week trip to Kenya in 1978 and two years later, planned and organized his first safari for a small group of friends. That success led him to organize other safaris, which eventually resulted in the creation of David Anderson Safari. Over the years, he has designed hundreds of safaris and personally escorted over fifty. Concerned with declining tourism to Africa and the inevitable impact that this was having on endangered wildlife, Anderson organized the 'Focus on Africa' Project in 1993. Over a sixteen-week period, one hundred thirty-six mostly amateur photographers traveled throughout East and Southern Africa on twenty-five safaris, which he designed. In all, more than 250,000 photo frames were exposed.  The award winning book,  On Safari: The Source for Safaris in East and Southern Africa  was inspired because David saw the need for an attractive coffee-table book that provided more than just wonderful pictures and  should be a resource book with solid information for the safari traveler. Anderson lives in Santa Barbara, California, but travels frequently to Africa in search of knowledge, adventure, and of course, to practice the art and science of photography. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 24 hours South Africa in the 1970s was a divided and increasingly traumatised country, seemingly permanently in the toils of apartheid, and with little space available for open discussion of apartheid policies or awareness of just what those policies were meaning in the lives of people. It was in this context that David Philip, a South African already involved for several years in publishing, became convinced there must be more opportunity for books with informed discussion and debate to be written and published within the country. He persuaded his wife Marie, also with publishing experience, that they could together set up their own independent publishing company, to publish 'Books that matter for Southern Africa'- in social history, politics, literature, or whatever, good of their kind and ready to challenge mainstream apartheid thinking. This is an anecdotal account - a memoir - of the lows and highs of a small, cheerful, underfunded but vibrant 'oppositional' publishing company, David Philip Publishers, from the year 1971 through to the birth of the new South Africa. Features Summary South Africa in the 1970s was a divided and increasingly traumatised country, seemingly permanently in the toils of apartheid, and with little space available for open discussion of apartheid policies or awareness of just what those policies were meaning in the lives of people.   Signed by the author, David Mitchell. Softcover. 2001. Sceptre. 418 pages. The days of summer are numbered. As Eiji Miyake's twentieth birthday nears, he arrives in Tokyo with a mission - to find the father he has never met. Number9Dream follows Eiji on a search that leads through the seething city's underworld, its lost property offices and video arcades; through his own imaginings, dreams and memories; via his alcoholic mother's letters, the manuscript of an attic fabulist, and the journal of a wartime torpedo pilot; to encounters with a syndicate of organ harvesters, John Lennon, and the god of thunder; and finally back to the rainy southern island of Yakushima, where everything that matters to Eiji began and ended. David Mitchell's second novel belongs in a Far Eastern, multi-textual, urban-pastoral, road-movie-of-the-mind, cyber-metaphysical, detective/family chronicle, coming-of-age-love-story genre of one. Very good condition. Autographed / Signed / Fiction / Adventure Additional photos on request. Please ask any questions before placing your order.  Many more books on sale, click here to browse!
