For decades, Clive Cussler has been delighting readers with novels filled with suspense, action and sheer audacity. Now he does it again, in one of the wildest, most entertaining historical thrillers in years. April 1950: The rusting hulk of a steam locomotive rises from the deep waters of a Montana lake. Inside is all that remains of three men who died forty-four years before. But it is not the engine nor its grisly contents that interest the people watching nearby. It is what is about to come next...1906: For two years, the western states of America have been suffering an extraordinary crime spree: a string of bank robberies by a single man who then cold-bloodedly murders any and all witnesses, and then vanishes without a trace. Fed up by the depredations of 'The Butcher Bandit', the U.S. government brings in the best man they can find - a tall, lean, no-nonsense detective named Isaac Bell who has caught thieves and killers from coast to coast. But he has never had a challenge like this one. From Arizona to Colorado to the streets of San Francisco during its calamitous earthquake and fire, he pursues what is quickly becoming clear to him is the best criminal mind he has ever encountered, and the woman who seems to hold the key to the man's identity. Using science, deduction and intuition, he repeatedly draws near, only to grasp at empty air, but at least he knows his pursuit is having an effect. Because his quarry is getting angry now, and has turned the chase back on him. The hunter has become the hunted. And soon, it will take all of Bell's skills not merely to prevail...but to survive. Filled with intricate plotting, his signature dazzling set pieces, and not one, but two, extraordinary villains, this is the master working at the height of his powers. Large Softcover in good condition. Michael Joseph An Imprint of Penguin Books. 2007. 404 pages.

Kill Me by STEPHEN WHITE - LARGE SOFTCOVER - Condition: Neat & Seems Unread* Throw out everything you think you know about twists, turns, and surprises. Get ready for the next big thing. Get ready to meet the Death Angels. We’ve all been there. A loved one or a dear friend becomes desperately ill or is tragically injured. Someone - maybe even you - says, "If that ever happens to me, I wish someone would just... kill me." What if you could choose when to die? But once you decide, you can’t change your mind. Ever. No matter what. Welcome to the next step in the evolution of suspense fiction, to an in-your-face/what-would-you-do? topical thriller. Kill Me is a brilliantly conceived roller-coaster ride that zeros in on some of the most contentious issues of our time, the human yearning for connection between the choices we make about our lives and deaths. Kill Me brings Alan Gregory face-to-face with the most challenging case of his career. As always, White’s characters are indelible and the dialogue is dead-on, but Kill Me is fresh and thought provoking in a way that’s so uncommon in crime fiction. Kill Me delivers on all the promise of White’s earlier work and then raises the bar in an unforgettably inventive tale of life and death. This is the book that you won’t be able to put down, but more to the point, this is the book that won’t go away. Listeners will be asking each other: "What would you do?" "If you could sign up – really - would you?"

Its protagonist, a German family scion born in 1911 and known simply as Lucien, grows up under the tutelage of his grandmother, Misia Schmutter, a despot who rules her Venezuelan estate as if she were a spider who spins a web not so much for killing (although she does this too) but for the fascination of power. She molds Lucien to her will, and after dying becomes a supernatural presence clinging to his back like the predatory tiger the boy once killed. But while her creed seems vaguely fascist, it is transmuted by Lucien's somewhat gentler spirit into a kind of existential obsession with pure action. This is, in fact, a story of obsession: Misia's for order and the will; Lucien's for architecture, gardens and gambling, and those of other characters, whose feelings range from love to bitterness. 1981 Binding: Softcover Number of pages: 334 Condition:Good Pen name on page 2                                                 I have many books on sale, please check my listings. Book in good condition. Slight spots to edges and front page otherwise all good.     From Rhodesia to Mugabe's Zimbabwe SoftCover – 2009. Chronicles of a Game Ranger by Nick Tredger (Author) Nick Tredger, after an 18 month national service stint in the Rhodesian Army, joined the Dept of National Parks and Wildlife in 1978 as a cadet-ranger. His first station was the remote Chizarira National Park, where amongst the isolated rugged mountains and gorges, he and a handful of brave young rangers working in siege conditions, fought both for their country and for the preservation of the wilderness around them. Subsequently, he worked his way through the ranks in arguably the greatest wildlife refuges in the world - Wankie (Hwange) - then, after Zimbabwean independence: Zambezi Valley and finally as Warden of the breathtakingly beautiful Mana Pools National Park at the age of 24. In the uncertainty of post-election Zimbabwe, when democracy and law and order was fast receding, he suffered the loss of his best friend, brutally murdered by Mugabe's North Korean-trained 5th Brigade and endured adversity, political interference and the omnipresent threat of incarceration by the Mugabe regime. In 1984 he decided he'd had enough and resigned from the Department and moved to South Africa.  Ref A1
