The elaborate storyline focuses on you and your two team mates--Tomi Ono, a veteran sniper and Anthony "AJ" Jackson, expert technical specialist. After assuming control of Kincaid, your objective is to command Ono and Garrett through several diverse missions while maintaining the tactical upper hand over your opponent. This means using the environment, the latest gear, the most advanced weaponry, the element of surprise and anything else you can get your hands on. Using the full capabilities of your other two team mates is essential to mission success. In one mission, for example, you are given the task of eliminating a number of suicide bombers, which requires the use of the sniper to immobilise the suspects and the tech expert to diffuse the bomb. Command Tomi and Jackson by issuing orders using either the intuitive controller interface or the optional voice recognition system. This allows your team to move quickly and effectively, making even complex manoeuvres easy to perform. The optional microphone takes advantage of the expansion slot on the Xbox controller or the USB port on the PS2. SWAT: GST is fully accessible to those who are new to the first-person genre, offering both Beginner and Advanced control systems. There's also the choice of Career or Arcade mode. Career mode follows Kincaid and his team from basic training through five chapters (21 missions) linked by a powerful storyline. Gamers can also team-up with a friend and battle through 10 multiplayer-only co-op missions. If working together isn't their speciality, they can choose the Deathmatch option and fight head-to head.

Meet Big Khan, a brand-new playable mutant - Buying the Seed of Evil expansion lets you add an entirely new Mutant to the team: Big Khan the moose. He is a veteran Stalker who has been exploring the Zone on his own in self-imposed exile. His size and strength make him an excellent fighter, capable of landing highly damaging critical hits against enemies. His unique mutations are Ground Pound and Flame Puke, attacks that make him effective at dealing with groups of enemies. A new threat rises - The Ark has become enveloped in mysterious roots, and many of its inhabitants seem different from their normal selves. Even the Zone Ghouls seem to have changed. Vietcong Platform: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows Me, Windows XP Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information An evolving storyline and intense sound system that captures the danger Lead as many as six expertly trained soldiers through 20 dramatic missions Full-featured multiplayer mode allows gamers to play as U.S. Special Forces or Vietcong soldiers Choose from more than 25 weapons, including M16¿¿¿¿¿s, grenade launchers and sniper rifles Players can order air strikes or ambush enemy patrols Product Description Set during the Vietnam War, Vietcong is a first-person shooter with tactical elements, combining thrilling action with strategic thinking. The evolving storyline combined with the game's intense sound system, graphics and animation truly bring powerful jungle combat to life on your PC. Acting as an elite soldier, you command the A-team, part of the US Special Forces, in realistically represented Vietnamese environments. Players will lead as many as six expertly trained soldiers through 20 dramatic missions, and follow a storyline that captures the danger, fear and unpredictability of the war itself. The full-featured multiplayer mode also allows gamers to play as US Special Forces or Vietcong soldiers and to battle over specially designed levels. In Vietcong the player chooses from more than 25 weapons, including M16s, grenade launchers and sniper rifles. Players can order air strikes or ambush enemy patrols, but success ultimately depends on their ability to keep a level head in the thick of intense action. Review Laden with expletives from the off, Vietcong is as far removed from a friendly family game as you can get. A gritty first-person shooter set in the midst of the Vietnam conflict, it's a brutal, engrossing game that needs one beast of a PC to be fully appreciated. The Vietcong of the title are a crack fighting force, who put up some substantial resistance in the challenging single-player game. You can also, in multi-player mode, switch sides and pit your wits against the American forces. However, you don't have to play with humans to get a team-based feeling. The single-player mode at times demands that you lead a small team of fighters, although that's just one of the cocktail of tricks it throws at you. The game's 20 missions generate really quite varied gameplay. If you've played other titles of a similar genre, you'll probably be familiar with the drill. Some require you to go out on attack, some require you to defend your positions and others involve more snooping and searching. At their best, the missions really are excellent; they're involving, deeply satisfying and offer a sturdy but enjoyable challenge. On the flip side, they can be a little uneven in tone. There are times when you can go a little too long without a sniff of action, for instance, and things can get quite frustrating. But overall impressions are still very positive. The AI is strong, and the atmosphere the game generates is particularly engrossing. A varied arsenal of weapons helps add to the adrenaline-pumping action moments. Ultimately, if you've got a beefy PC and enjoy your first-person shooters, Vietcong should be at the top of your shopping list. - Simon Brew
