Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Platinum (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New This Title Also Available As: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition games available Please get in touch for information on these options. Product Information Expanded career mode Skich on the back of a car Skate through traffic Tons of new environments Single- and multi-player modes Online-compatible (requires broadband connection and Network Adapter) Product Description The world's best skateboarding game reinvents itself to give users the real-life experience of a hardened amateur skater. A completely new, non-linear career mode lets you choose the goals you want to accomplish: challenge pros head-to-head to beat their best tricks, take off to a competition or just skate solo to conquer a gap. Make your way through the game as an amateur and then conquer your pro's special challenge to unlock the more difficult professional world. Evolving levels change depending on the specific skater's goals and accomplishments--toggle different skate elements on and off (quarter pipes, benches, kickers) to change up lines. The newly upgraded Ultimate Skatepark editor allows user-set objectives such as high scores, hidden tapes and combo completion. You can create a dream park and give it to a friend to session. Skate as Tony Hawk or one of 12 other top pros. Improved skater physics and animations now allow skating on moving objects such as cars, trucks or cranes. New improvements also include more realistic balancing, bails and board dynamics. The game also has a comprehensive online feature in which up to eight players from across Europe can go head-to-head in new multi-player modes such as Goal Attack and Capture the Flag. Review Just in case you didn't know, the Tony Hawk's series is the best skateboarding sim ever--and now, with the release of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, it's even more so. Skateboarding is taken far more seriously nowadays, with legions of baggily trousered youths now able to refer to moves such as a bluntside or overcrook with a perfectly straight face. Indeed, the list of silly names for ridiculously dangerous stunts has been increased for this latest sequel and you now have the added ability to skitch (hold onto the back of a moving car) and grind through traffic. The big new change, though, is the career mode, which now has specific goals and milestones for all the different skaters and really adds to the replayability. Curiously, the graphics are still not particularly good, with the same slightly muddy, undefined look to them that the developers presumably now think is all part of the fun. They have however thankfully realised that having time limits for the levels was an unnecessary limitation and, except for a few specific missions, you've now got all the time in the world to graze your knees and cave in your skull. Add in a new and improved online mode and you've got everything the discerning extreme sportsman could desire. -- David Jenkins

Product Description ReviewIn a nutshell: The Wii is getting its very own custom made Tony Hawk's game as Activision focuses on racing and proving that the Wii can do next generation graphics that would've been impossible on the GameCube. The lowdown: There have been an awful lot of Tony Hawk's games over the years but they've always been fairly similar in scope with open-ended levels and an emphasis on stunts. This game completely reverses the usual mix as you compete in a variety of downhill events against the clock and other skateboarders. Since it's essentially a race game you hold the Wii Remote horizontally, as in racers such as Excite Truck, while the '1' button is used to grind, the '2' button to jump and the D-pad to select different tricks. It's all surprisingly intuitive and the way that performing tricks feeds your turbo boost bar is a clever mix of risk and reward. Although the tracks are pretty fantastical they're at least based on real cities, with a pleasing amount of shortcuts and secrets in what promises to be another top notch racer for the Wii. Most exciting moment: Although they're all downhill races of some sort the game includes many different types of competitions, from checkpoint races to slaloms and trick races. The most obviously amusing though is the "special" races which task you with knocking down pedestrians and road side bric-a-brac. Since you ask: The game is completely separate to Tony Hawk's Project 8 on the other home consoles. In actual fact it is a homage to the old Electronic Arts game Skate or Die! from , which also features downhill skateboarding and is apparently the real Tony Hawk's favourite ever game. The bottom line: Tony Hawk turns his attention from tricks to racing in this welcome series diversion.-HARRISON DENT Manufacturer's DescriptionFor the first time ever, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam lets players experience the breakneck speed of downhill skateboard racing as they tear up the steepest terrains in the world while performing tricks and out-manoeuvring opponents in locations such as the crowded streets of San Francisco and rocky terrain of Machu Picchu. Developed for the Nintendo Revolution, gamers utilize an innovative and intuitive control system as they take on the role of Tony Hawk or one of nine characters and compete in specific time-based challenges in one of three gameplay modes including race, trick and slalom. Gamers can also challenge friends in head-to-head competitions as they pull off a variety of high-velocity stunts and crashes in living, populated environments filled with cars, pedestrians and buildings.
