Vredefort (Free State)
Dates back to late 70's, plaque with winner's details was removed from base, so there are no inscriptions on base or trophy. Very slight rubbing of the plating, but overall in very good condition. Some places there were deliberate rubbing of the plating, to expose some of the copper underneath, and create an interesting look to the trophy. MEASUREMENTS: from bottom of base to top of finial the trophy is about 47,5cm tall. The Stinkwood base measures about 21cm x 21cm. COLLECTION: Vredefort (just outside Parys).

Mass 7.777 grams Au 999.9 24 carat Gold Mintage 1 000 _____ The R2 Gold Coin Prestige Set On 15 May 2004 at the World Trade Centre in Zurich, South Africa was announced as the country to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, a first ever for the continent of Africa! 64 matches will be played in 10 stadiums in 9 South African cities from 8 Provinces, from 11 June - 11 July 2010. The South African Mint has captured this historical event by designing a series of legal tender commemorative coins in gold and silver. The coin designs, while depicting typical football images, remain truly South African by featuring national symbols and elements derived from the various coat-of-arms of the host Provinces and from the South African coat-of-arms. This R2 Gold Coin Prestige Set contains all the R2 (1/4 oz, 24 carat gold) coins in the series from 2006 until 2010. On the obverse the year the coin was minted is depicted together with the words "South Africa" and the national coat-of-arms. On the reverse of each coin official trademarks of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa ™ are featured together with the denomination "R2" and elements which represent South Africa. The 2006 coin symbolizes the handing over of the hosting of the FIFA World Cup™ from Germany to South Africa. Elements from both countries appear in the outer circle. In the inner circle the official 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ Emblem is depicted. From 2007 until 2010 the Provinces hosting the FIFA World Cup ™ games are featured. Most of the elements featured in the outer circle of each coin are derived from the Provinces' coat-of-arms. Gauteng and Limpopo are featured in 2007, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal in 2008, Free State and North West in 2009 and in 2010 the Western Cape and Eastern Cape are depicted. The design within the inner circle features the game of football together with the official designation. In 2009 the Official Mascot, Zakumi™, takes centre stage and in 2010 the Official Trophy is featured as the main design element. This prestigious collection of R2 pure gold coins truly represents South Africa as the proud host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
