Relatively little has been seen of the game so far, bar a short playable demo which demonstrated a highly impressive level of graphic detail that makes it look just like Burnout 3: Takedown. In fact, the game will, rather like Ridge Racer, be a sort of "best of" compilation of features from all the previous Burnout games, including tracks from Burnout 1, 2 and 3. A total of nine gameplay modes are promised, including the infamous Crash, Pursuit, Burning Lap, Road Rage, Eliminator, Race, Time Attack, Legends Face-Off and Legends GP. Four of these (Race, Crash, Pursuit and Road Rage) can be played in wireless multiplayer mode with up to four people. The Japanese import version of this game released to much acclaim, so consider this release a good bet as a very replayable addition to your Game Boy pak library. Review The Wario Land series stands as one of the most innovative on the Game Boy Color, and with each new release we are left wondering how Nintendo is going to top its performance with subsequent releases. Somehow they have managed to improve on the game's magical formula once again with Wario Land 3, which is not only the best Wario game ever released, but also one of the best Game Boy Color games, full stop. Most games require cheat codes before players get unlimited lives, but the gameplay of Wario Land 3 revolves around the concept of invincibility. Wario can't die, but the various creatures in the game can transform him temporarily into an alternate form. Get hit by a zombie, and you turn into a zombie until you are healed by light from a street lamp. Let the mad professor hit you with his potion and you become invisible, meaning security cameras can't see you, but you also can't see yourself to make precision jumps. Each alternate form has a specific strength and weakness, and figuring out how to use the transformations to solve puzzles is half of the game's fun. It may seem counterintuitive, but to succeed at this game you will need to deliberately try to get hit by certain enemies at various points in the game. Is this the anti-Mario, or what? The graphics are clear and colourful, and the animation for both Wario and the other denizens of the land he's trapped in are very fluid. The sound effects are so-so, but the strange soundtracks that play on each level are catchy. Considering the limitations of the Game Boy Color, it's nice to have a game that combines some of the best graphics the system can output with some of the most phenomenal gameplay ever developed for any title. -- T. The latest in Sega's highly successful series of off-road racing games embodies the best and the worst aspects of the racing genre: it's great fun and unlike some racing games it's possible to smash huge chunks off your motor and give it a, shall we say, structural re-design. On the downside it's hard, very hard, to master. The learning curve is almost vertical and it takes a good couple of hours' practice to get to the point where you can keep the car on the road for any length of time. Get past this initial sticking point, however, and V-Rally is excellent fun. Graphically it's gorgeous--low sun blocks the view of the horizon in winter weather and the snow courses look so real it's tempting to get out of the car and construct a quick snowman. Sound too adds to the flavour with fully realistic engine sounds and a codriver who gets almost sarcastic when a mistimed bend results in an unfortunate meeting with the scenery. Race modes include an arcade driving section and an excellent career mode which allows the competitive player to tackle the 20 top class vehicles on offer. Overall, V-Rally 3 is a very worthwhile purchase; once the initial shock of the difficulty wears off there's real depth and excitement here. -- Chris Russell
