Johannesburg (Gauteng)
Author: Jonathan Safran Foer Publisher: Visual Editions () ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Condition: As New Binding: Softcover Pages: 285 Dimensions: 21.8 x 13.5 x 2.4 cm +++ by Jonathan Safran Foer +++ With a different die-cut on every page, Tree of Codes explores previously uncharted literary territory. Initially deemed impossible to make, the book is a first - as much a sculptural object as it is a work of masterful storytelling. Tree of Codes is the story of an enormous last day of life - as one character's life is chased to extinction, Foer multi-layers the story with immense, anxious, at times disorientating imagery, crossing both a sense of time and place, making the story of one person's last day everyone's story. In order to write Tree of codes, the author took an English language edition of Bruno Schulz's The street of crocodiles and cut into its pages, carving out a new story.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. The group started thirty years ago with one store in the quirky suburb of Yeoville and has grown through the years to a total of five shops, plus our online sales. Bookdealers is well-known for its collectable and used books. We also have a large variety of remaindered books sourced from around the world.  If you collect from one of our five branches there is no delivery charge. We also offer postal delivery (when available) and courier delivery, subject to a quote.

Subtitle: Post-War Sculptures and Assemblages in South Africa Author: Elizabeth Rankin Publisher: Witwatersrand University Press () Edition: First Edition ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Condition: Very Good - Slight wear to cover edges Binding: Softcover Pages: 206 Dimensions: 28 x 22.5 x 1 cm Weight: 0.81 Price: 200 +++ by Elizabeth Rankin +++ The post-war period has seen a remarkable development in sculpture in bronze, steel and other metals in South Africa. Economic growth, the establishment of bronze foundries and developments in new media at art schools stimulated sculptural production amongst white sculptors, who drew on modernist trends from Europe and America. Excluded from art institutions, black artists rarely had the opportunity to share in international aspirations, but, making use of unusual media and informal training, produced innovative works. Images of Metal explores these developments and offers over twenty individual essays on sculptors represented in the University of the Witwatersrand collections. From wire toys and representational bronzes, through modernist steel constructions, to politically charged multi-media assemblages, the work show the common history and the creative diversity of sculpture in South Africa.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. This sculptural decanter draws its design inspiration from nature's own artistry, providing elegant presentation for fine wines. The elongated shape creates a generous interior surface area, exposing wine to just the right amount of oxygen. Aeration has an effect similar to swirling wine in a glass, encouraging both young and old vintages to develop their full flavors and bouquet. The decanter's wide mouth simplifies filling, while the curved handle makes the well-balanced vessel very comfortable to hold and pour. Non lead, mouth blown, handmade.
