ZAR silver 3 pence trench art ring.  A trench art signet ring made from a silver ZAR three pence coin. The coin's issue date is obscured by the soldering, but the date range was 1892-1897, so it is pre-Boer war era, and obviously still in circulation during the Boer War. The metal is untested but the coins were normally.925 silver. The coin itself is usually 1.41 g.  This ring weighs 2.82 g in total.  Provenance unknown. Nice sturdy construction. Happy bidding.

1898 ZAR 1 Penny XF (scarce in such condition) 1894 ZAR 1 Shilling VF 1892 ZAR 2 Shillings VF (the most rare of the ZAR 2 Shillings coins, the least minted in that inaugural mint year compared to the following years) 1893 ZAR Half Crown (2 and 1/2 Shillings) Fine - but with hole in it. These coins are worth well over R4000. This is an investment as the ZAR coins, especially the two scarce ones in this lot are slowly dissaperaing from the market. These coins are becoming more scarce. And while the Rand is down, this is the best time to invest in these coins. These coins sell up to five times it's value abroad. 1892  Kruger Pond D/S XF45 SANGS ***************************************************************************** Insured shipping included in the price - applies to South Africa only ***************************************************************************** The  Double Shaft  as this Pond is commonly known has two shafts on the wagon. The Voortrekker wagon had only a single shaft (disselboom) so two oxen either side of the shaft could be used. Also this pond had O.S. on the Shoulder of President Kruger which were the initials of Otto Schultz.  The O.S. in Afrikaans means Ox.     This Pond was part of the first set of coins that were struck for the ZAR government. They were stuck by the Prussian Mint in Berlin. The errors in the Double Shaft Pond were multiple. The double shaft should have been a single shaft. The wheels of the wagon should have been smaller at the front. The wagon was symbolic to the Burghers and they were furious. It is said it nearly cost President Paul Kruger the election. The Pond coins which had not been released were melted down.    

       An old collector has favoured me with a few ZAR coins to sell.  The coins have not been slabbed, but are conservatively graded and are eminently collectable.   Due to time constraints only limited information can be supplied in the listing. However, have a look at the description and photograph/s above and if in doubt, please ask.     MEDAL GRADING SYSTEM MINT - As minted. EF - Extremely fine; showing little if any wear and the design appear sharp and clear. NEF - Nearly extremely fine. VF - Very fine; showing little wear but clear wear on high relief of medal. The medal still has a pleasing appearance and design is quite clear. NVF - Nearly very fine. F - Fine; majority of the original detail is still visible, but there will be moderately heavy wear all over the medal. G - Good; should be poor with very little of the original detail visible. Edge knocks and field/rim contacts: all edge knocks and/or rim contacts are mentioned. At no time will a medal be down graded in order to conceal those field contacts, or other contacts/knocks or other. Renamed/part renamed or other: these will always be clearly described and mentioned, as will official mint corrections.
