Between her stuck-in-a-rut mom, her grumpy grandpop, and the lifetime supply of sludgy soda in the fridge, it's hard for Maggie to imagine a change. But when Lena moves in with her creative spirit and outrageous perspective, middle school takes off with a bang. Someone starts pulling the kind of pranks that send their rule-loving new principal into an uproar--complete with purple puffs of smoke, parachuting mice, and a scavenger hunt that leads to secret passageways. And for the first time in her life, Maggie begins to wonder if there might be more to Odawahaka than she ever saw coming! This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Sometimes considered the first avant-garde art movement, the Pre-Raphaelites rejected their era's dominant artistic theories for what they saw as a more spiritual, naturalistic and intensely personal approach. Fascinated by the romantic aspects of medieval culture and the vivid, jewel-like colors of Quattrocento art, the movement abhored the Classical poses and composition of Raphael and those influenced by him-hence the group's name-and the influence of Sir Joshua Reynolds. Founded in 1848 by William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the original Pre-Raphaelites were joined by William Michael Rossetti, James Collinson, Frederic George Stephens and Thomas Woolner to form a seven-member "brotherhood". Its influence on many later British artists was extensive, and Rossetti's work is now seen as a precursor of the wider European Symbolist movement. This book examines the group's emergence, development, influence, and subsequent demise. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Past the waterhole at Musmar my spirits started fighting each other again. There were turmoil's of the unknown, beauty versus the hideous, and the passion of going beyond. I closed my eyes and walked fifty paces. There was still nothing on the endless horizon. Then I sat down in the sand and drew a map of Africa - pushing my finger into Cape Town and slowly drawing it along the sand up all Eastern Africa, Ethiopia and in to the Sudan. Then, I thought I saw him, the old Sangoma, there in the Zulu hills holding his puffadder. I moved my finger northward towards Cairo. The sand was hot, but I am sure I could see his smile. Obie Oberholzer began this, his fourth major photographic odyssey, in Cape Town, on the 1st of April 1994. He meandered his way north, across plateaus and plains, through valleys and over mountains up along Africa's eastern side. There were jungles to come and vast deserts and roads that were no longer roads. He travelled the byways through South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritria and Sudan to Egypt (via Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel). In the parking lot near the Great Pyramids of Giza, he wiped the dust from his dashboard. The distance read 40,000 kilometres and the time said 9 months and twenty days. This is his story. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 12 working days Wife to Richard, Duke of York, mother to Edward IV and Richard III, and aunt to the famous 'Kingmaker', Richard, Earl of Warwick, Cecily Neville was a key player on the political stage of fifteenth-century Britain England. Mythologically rumoured to have been known as 'the Rose of Raby' because of her beauty and her birth at Raby Castle, and as 'Proud Cis' because of her vanity and fiery temper, Cecily's personality and temperament have actually been highly speculated upon. In fact, much of her life is shrouded in mystery. Putting aside Cecily's role as mother and wife, who was she really? Matriarch of the York dynasty, she navigated through a tumultuous period and lived to see the birth of the future Henry VIII. From seeing the house of York defeat their Lancastrian cousins; to witnessing the defeat of her own son, Richard III, at the battle of Bosworth, Cecily then saw one of her granddaughters become Henry VII's queen consort. Her story is full of controversy and the few published books on her life are full of guess-work. In this highly original history, Dr John Ashdown-Hill seeks to dispel the myths surrounding Cecily using previously unexamined contemporary sources. Features Summary Allegedly born in the year of Agincourt and still alive for the birth of Henry VIII, Cecily Neville's life spanned most of the tumultuous fifteenth century... Lee Evans is one of the best-loved comedians in the country Britain; a Hollywood star able to sell out arenas in the blink of eye. But he was not always such a roaring success. The Life of Lee is an utterly hilarious and very moving autobiography charting his ups and downs on the way to the top. Lee takes us on a darkly humorous journey through his childhood spent running wild on a Bristol housing estate, his unconventional school days and through a grim teenage period of numerous dead-end jobs. The book also reveals how as a boy Lee got his first taste of showbiz, accompanying his entertainer father around the rowdy, unforgiving working-men's club and theatre circuit. Desperately struggling to be accepted, this quiet young loner always saw himself as an outsider. But he finally met the love of his life and accidentally discovered the one place where he felt at home: the stage.

DAVID ANDERSON "ON SAFARI" THE SOURCE FOR SAFARIS IN EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA David Anderson is an expert on safari design and planning with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his knowledge of safari destinations. He  became captivated by Africa after a five-week trip to Kenya in 1978 and two years later, planned and organized his first safari for a small group of friends. That success led him to organize other safaris, which eventually resulted in the creation of David Anderson Safari. Over the years, he has designed hundreds of safaris and personally escorted over fifty. Concerned with declining tourism to Africa and the inevitable impact that this was having on endangered wildlife, Anderson organized the 'Focus on Africa' Project in 1993. Over a sixteen-week period, one hundred thirty-six mostly amateur photographers traveled throughout East and Southern Africa on twenty-five safaris, which he designed. In all, more than 250,000 photo frames were exposed.  The award winning book,  On Safari: The Source for Safaris in East and Southern Africa  was inspired because David saw the need for an attractive coffee-table book that provided more than just wonderful pictures and  should be a resource book with solid information for the safari traveler. Anderson lives in Santa Barbara, California, but travels frequently to Africa in search of knowledge, adventure, and of course, to practice the art and science of photography.  2007 / Hardcover / Good condition “In 2006, almost a hundred years after the founding of the National Party, the unthinkable happened: the once mighty party of apartheid collapsed into the African National Congress, its sworn enemy for almost a century. While a string of blunders saw party support plummeting, such a humiliating end was wholly unexpected. Is it true that the NP’s leaders had betrayed their supporters? What role did the NP play during the negotiations to ensure increased wealth among the black and white South African elite? And is greater material welfare enough to keep Afrikaners satisfied, or are we seeing a resurgence of Afrikaner nationalism in the “De la Rey” phenomenon? These and other issues are addressed in White Power & the Rise and Fall of the National Party. Vast in scope and details, this book provides an overview of South African politics and society from 1900 to the present, with particular focus on the last 15 years. It covers contemporary debates on apartheid abuses, the leaders’ betrayal, collaboration with the ANC and the De la Rey phenomenon. It will be of interest to all readers wanting to understand current politics, whether they supported or opposed the NP.”

2001 first edition hardcover with dust jacket new and unread. Van Riebeeck Society second series volume 32. Anglo-Boer War, Anglo-Boereoorlog. R60 postage in SA. John (Jack) Moody Lane, born an Ulsterman, sought his fortune in the South African Republic where he became a storekeeper in the hamlet of Hartbeesfontein in the Western Transvaal. Although he accepted Republican citizenship, he remained loyal to the British cause, and was reluctant to bear arms against his mother country when he was called up to join a commando at the start of the war. As a result, he was placed in charge of the ammunition in the main laager of General Piet Cronjé. Lane saw action at Magersfontein, outside Kimberley and eventually at Paardeberg where he was captured and sent to St Helena. Throughout he retained a wry sense of humour and observed the life in the Boer camps with a sharp and critical eye.
