General Service Campaign medal with Mentioned in Dispatches and Maluti Clasp Physical Description: Excellent condition medal is numbered Award description: To a member of the SADF or the Auxiliary Service of the SADF, who has since 1 January 1983 been employed, within the borders of the Republic of South Africa. 1990 - Qualifying service (a) Service rendered within the borders of the Republic of South Africa for a continuous period of 55 days, or for a noncontinuous period of 90 days. (b) Whilst rendering such service irrespective of the period of service, was injured or killed and was thus prevented from completing the required period of service. 1993 - Amendment to qualifying service was extended to combat terrorism and crime. The following was considered as qualifying service for the award of the medal: Rendering service and completed as part of any military operation within the borders of the Republic of South Africa on service in defence of the Republic or in the prevention or suppression of terrorism or in internal disorder in the Republic or in the preservation of life, health or property or for the maintenance of essential services, including the maintenance of law and order or the prevention of crime in co-operation with the South African Police. Discontinued with effect 16 April 2003 Okhankanyiweyo (Mentioned in Despatches) (Worn on Tshumelo Ikatelaho medal ribbon): The State President deems it desirable to be informed of every noteworthy instance of Brave or Meritorious Conduct, Leadership, Devotion to Duty, Praiseworthy Service or other Distinguished Conduct by Officers and Other Ranks of the South African National Defence Force, and of any Auxiliary Service of the South African National Defence Force, and of any Armed Forces attached to or serving with or rendering any service to the South African National Defence Force, who have distinguished themselves in the execution of duty in accordance with the provisions of the Defence Act, or in other circumstances, which actions may not have warranted the award of a particular Decoration or Medal for such distinguished services Maluti Clasp: Clasp to the General Service Medal The Maluti Clasp was awarded to members of the SANDF who distinguished themselves by participation in Operation BOLEAS and Operation MALUTI in Lesotho
