Whether pursuing family-based treatment or other options, parents learn specific, doable steps for monitoring their teen's eating and exercise habits, managing mealtimes, ending weight-related power struggles, and collaborating successfully with health care providers. The book is old, and the pages may be browned. There are creases on the spine and corners, and worn around the edges. The book is still very readable, but has seen some wear. Abridged from Martin Gilbert's acclaimed biography, this edition covers all of Churchill's 90 years to capture the adventure and drama of all the major events of his life, including his premiership during World War II. The book draws on Churchill's own writings and correspondence, in addition to numerous other sources, such as government papers, friends and family.

Yum! But first, Aunt Sara gives the friends a tour of the whole farm, where they learn what it means to eat balanced meals, why eating local food matters and all that goes into getting food from farm to table. Who knew there was so much to learn about what we eat? It makes everything taste better!Award-winning author and illustrator Scot Ritchie uses accessible and entertaining language and familiar characters from his other books to encourage young children to make healthy choices about what they eat. Each stop on the farm tour introduces a basic food group: the field of wheat and oats for grains, the garden for vegetables, the henhouse for protein, the barn for dairy and the orchard for fruit. Ritchie's cheerful, busy illustrations invite children to look closer at the details. This is a terrific book for a science or health lesson to broaden young children's understanding of healthy eating and why local food matters. The potluck dinner includes a multicultural group of neighbors and provides opportunities for discussions about community involvement. There is an apple crisp recipe at the end of the story. 1981 hardcover with dust jacket and 279 pages. In good condition, though with some ex-library markings. R65 postage in SA. In 1928, Winston Churchill seemed to be at the very height of his career. He was Chancellor of the Exchequer and when he spoke in the House of Commons, MPs of every party flocked to hear his oratory. The leadership of the all-powerful Conservative party seemed within his grasp. A year later, however, all had changed. The Conservatives themselves were defeated, and out of office, Churchill found himself at odds with the leadership, especially over the future of India. When the National Government was formed in 1931, Churchill was not asked to join it. Thereafter, though out on his own, Churchill's acute political sense, foresight and courage were undiminished. Fed with secret inside information by a small, brave band of men - some of them risking their careers to help him - Churchill consistently warned of the Nazi danger, even before the rise of Hitler. And once Hitler came to power, he stepped up his attacks on Britain's failure to rearm. His message was belittled by the Government, which fought him at every turn, even refusing him the right to broadcast. But Churchill never gave up. Despite all the Government's efforts, and as a result of Churchill's courage and perseverance, the British public came to realize the truth of his warnings; the bond was formed that was to be so vital in the years that followed, when Britain and Churchill stood together, but alone.

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days If we want to improve the treatment of animals, Dominique Lestel argues, we must acknowledge our evolutionary impulse to eat them and we must expand our worldview to see how others consume meat ethically and sustainably. The position of vegans and vegetarians is unrealistic and exclusionary. Eat This Book calls at once for a renewed and vigorous defense of animal rights and a more open approach to meat eating that turns us into responsible carnivores. Lestel skillfully synthesizes Western philosophical views on the moral status of animals and holistic cosmologies that recognize human-animal reciprocity. He shows that the carnivore's position is more coherently ethical than vegetarianism, which isolates humans from the world by treating cruelty, violence, and conflicting interests as phenomena outside of life. Describing how meat eaters assume completely-which is to say, metabolically-their animal status, Lestel opens our eyes to the vital relation between carnivores and animals and carnivores' genuine appreciation of animals' life-sustaining flesh. He vehemently condemns factory farming and the terrible footprint of industrial meat eating. His goal is to recreate a kinship between humans and animals that reminds us of what it means to be tied to the world. If you could travel back in time, the period from 1660 to 1700 would make one of the most exciting destinations in history. It is the age of Samuel Pepys and the Great Fire of London; bawdy comedy and the libertine court of Charles II; Christopher Wren in architecture, Henry Purcell in music and Isaac Newton in science - the civil wars are over and a magnificent new era has begun. But what would it really be like to live in Restoration Britain? Where would you stay and what would you eat? What would you wear and where would you do your shopping? The third volume in the series of Ian Mortimer's bestselling Time Traveller's Guides answers the crucial questions that a prospective traveller to seventeenth-century Britain would ask. How much should you pay for one of those elaborate wigs? Should you trust a physician who advises you to drink fresh cow's urine to cure your gout? Why are boys made to smoke in school? And why are you unlikely to get a fair trial in court? People's lives are changing rapidly - from a world of superstition and religious explanation to rationalism and scientific calculation. In many respects the period sees the tipping point between the old world and the new as fear and uncertainty, hardship and eating with your fingers give way to curiosity and professionalism, fine wines and knives and forks. Travelling to Restoration Britain encourages us to reflect on the customs and practices of daily life - and this unique guide not only teaches us about the seventeenth century but makes us look with fresh eyes at the modern world.
