Hardcover published by Purnell & Sons, copyright date 1965. The card jacket is whole, but is edge-worn, with several small tears, and some insect damage to all faces. The spine and folds are sunned. The boards are warped, and have a few small spots on the spine. The pages are all lightly spotted, a few are yellowed, but are otherwise clean and intact. The first end paper has been dedicated, signed and dated 20:12:65 by the author. This page also contains a small pen price in the top left corner and some small pencil notes. "Gideon Francois Jacobs was a Major in the Royal Marines when the events he describes in this book took place. Born in South Africa in 1922 he had a brilliant academic career before World War II claimed, and put to such effective use, his remarkable talents and qualities of leadership - his outstanding services being acknowledged with the award, at the age of 23, of the O.B.E."
