Import This is a mixture of takes from four albums. Yes, their two big hits "Have You Seen Her" and "Oh Girl" are not on it, which is a good thing. Those are great tunes, but it's nice to hear some different stuff. There is not a bad song on this CD. My favorite song of theirs, "Living in the footsteps of another man" is here and it sounds good as ever! Many more classics on this tremendous CD. Full of great harmonies and orchestration. This is one heckuva CD!

This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 8 - 13 working days This never-before heard jazz classic documents one of the most historically important working bands in all of Jazz history, a band that was both short-lived and, until now, thought to be frustratingly under-recorded. The concert, which took place at the famed New York hall on November 29, 1957, was preserved on newly-discovered tapes made by Voice of America for a later radio broadcast that were located at the Library of Congress in Washington DC earlier this year. Monkand Coltranehad been working together for a solid four months by the time they set foot on stage at Carnegie Hall that night. By all accounts, Coltrane had been tentative early on in the Five Spot run, challenged at first by Monk¿s quirky melodies and chord changes, but the 51 minutes of music captured in pristine sound quality on At Carnegie Hall, present the quartet, which was completed by bassist Ahmed Abdul-Malikand drummer Shadow Wilson, at the height of their powers. The tapes from that evening at Carnegie Hall were inadequately labeled, filed away amongst the Voice of America¿s vast collection of recordings, and apparently forgotten until January 2005 when Larry Applebaum, a supervisor and jazz specialist at the Library of Congress, came upon them by accident during the routine process of digitally transferring the Library¿s collection for preservation purposes. Applebaum noticed a set of tapes simply labeled ¿sp. Event 11/29/57 carnegie jazz concert (#1),¿ with one of the tapes barring the sole marking ¿T. Monk.¿ Until now, remarkably little recorded documentation of Monk¿s quartet with Coltrane has been known to exist, a fact that makes this finding all the more significant. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Blonde on Blonde is singer-songwriter Bob Dylan's seventh studio album, released in 1966 by Columbia Records. It is believed to be the first significant double album in rock music, its length forcing it to two LPs, although some digital reissues fit the album on one compact disc. It is notable for injecting Dylan's brand of blues rock, fully established on Highway 61 Revisited, with a more eclectic sound and even more surreal lyrics. Despite its uncompromising nature, it has come to be regarded as one of Dylan's greatest achievements, and "one of the greatest rock & roll albums ever made". This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days What makes this classic recording endure is the monumental level of intensity the band brings to each number. Ellington, in speaking of the band's competitive nature, recalled that they were all in a particularly fesity mode for this performance. That crackling energy translates to every number, and even extended to Count Basie's original drummer Jo Jones, who sat grinning from ear to ear in the front row, so moved by the swing of it all that he beat time for the band with a rolled up copy of The Christian Science Monitor. From Johnny Hodges' ultra-suave "Jeep's Blues", to Paul Gonsalves' epic tenor marathon on "Diminuendo And Crescendo In Blue" (which set the crowd to dancing and screaming), ELLINGTON AT NEWPORT is one of the really great big band recordings. Features Summary What makes this classic recording endure is the monumental level of intensity the band brings to each number. Ellington, in speaking of the band's competitive nature... 'Panama 500' finds him with two different groups of musicians who perform Perez's own compositions that celebrate the 500th anniversary of the historic crossing, in 1513, of the Panama isthmus by explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa. The other group features drummer Adam Cruz, bassist Ben Street, violinist Alex Hargreaves and percussionist Roman Diaz. Both groups are musical allies and stunning collaborators in Danilo's vision. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Hank Mobley's PECKIN' TIME is a classic bop date featuring heavyweight talent. Besides the obvious abilities of the leader, most notable here is a still very young Lee Morgan on trumpet. The jubilant Morgan, at this time a rising star yet to hit his stride, makes an exquisite partner for the bluesy Mobley, one of the most underrated tenor men in jazz. Rounding out the quintet is the rhythm section of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and the often-overlooked drummer Charlie Persip. As the title suggests, PECKIN' has the spirit of a blowing session with a hefty amount of up-tempo rousers. The bopping opener "High and Flighty" gets things kicking with frenzied ensemble work and hard-blowing solos. The only standard of the set is the classic "Speak Low," here presented as a bouncing rhumba with exceptionally lyrical contributions by Morgan. The swinging title track and the aptly titled burner "Stretchin' Out" both offer more opportunities for all to display their wares with plenty of hard bop gusto. Finally, "Git-Go Blues" closes the session with a long, rolling groove that swings hard and deep. Also included are three alternate takes that offer even more blowing and swinging. Features Summary Hank Mobley's PECKIN' TIME is a classic bop date featuring heavyweight talent. Besides the obvious abilities of the leader, most notable here is a still very young Lee Morgan on trumpet... Contributors Hank Mobley Format CD Release date 20080902
