Sutherland is situated in the Northern Cape, just a stone's throw from the Western Cape's border, and is known for its clear skies, stars and its cold temperatures in winters, which can drop to below zero and snows occasionally. The town is also steeped in South African history, endemic succulents and amazing architecture. Sutherland is home to SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope, which is the second largest optical telescope in the world. The town itself is quaint and quiet, but there is more to it than just visiting the observatory. The Artist's Cottage is ideal for that weekend away from the city, and spending some quality time with family. The house contains two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, and comfortably sleeps four. Downstairs has a bedroom with a double bed and en-suite bathroom. An open-plan dining area, kitchen and big fireplace, built in the old-fashioned way and is big enough to climb into and sit next to the fire, is available.
