Leonotis is a genus of flowering plants in the mint family Lamiaceae. It comprises 9 species. One of these, Leonotis nepetifolia, is native to tropical Africa and southern India. It is naturalized throughout most of the tropics. The other 8 species are endemic to southern Africa. Leonotis was named by Robert Brown in 1810 in Prodromus Florae Novae Hollandiae et Insulae Van Diemen. The name means "lion's ear". It will attract birds, butterflies and bees to the garden.           Leonotis intermedia commonly known as Wild Dagga, Broad-leaved leonotis or Minaret flower is a South African indigenous species. It can be found in the Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Previously it was known as Leonotis bachmannii, Leonotis brevipes, Leonotis dysophylla, Leonotis intermedia var. natalensis and Leonotis malacophylla. It forms a robust shrub that grows to 2 meters tall. It has velvety leaves that are silvery on the underside. From summer to autumn it bears eye-catching orange flowers that are filled with nectar.

Washingtonia is a genus of palms, native to the southwestern United States and northwest Mexico. Both Washingtonia species are commonly cultivated across the United States, the Middle East, southern Europe, and North Africa, where they have greatly hybridized. They are fan palms of the Corypheae tribe. The flowers are in a dense inflorescence, with the fruits maturing into a small blackish-brown drupe 6–10 mm diameter with a thin layer of sweet flesh over the single seed. The fruit is edible, and was used by Native American people as a minor food source. They are also eaten by birds, which disperse the seeds in their droppings after digesting the fruit pulp. Native to the desert regions of Mexico, Washingtonia robusta are fast growing palms and one of the easiest palms to grow from seed. Its crown of large bright green, fan-shaped evergreen fronds provide a very tropical appearance to the landscape. Also makes a nice conservatory plant inside when grown in a full sun location. The Yellow Bird of Paradise - Strelitzia reginae 'Mandela's Gold' - is a rare, yellow form of the famous orange Bird of Paradise. This spectacular cultivar has flaring, yellow sepals and blue petals reminiscent of a crested tropical bird. Like the orange form, it is easy to grow in the right conditions.   Agave is a genus of monocots. The plants are perennial, but each rosette flowers once and then dies. Some species are known by the name century plant. Traditionally, it was circumscribed to be composed of about 166 species, but it is now usually understood to have about 208 species. Agave lechuguilla is an Agave species found only in the Chihuahuan Desert, where it is an indicator species. It typically grows on calcareous soils. The plant flowers once in its life, then it dies. The flowers are a source of nutrients for insects, bats, and some birds. The leaves are long, tough, and rigid, with very sharp, hard points which can easily penetrate clothing and even leather, giving the colloquial name "shin-daggers". Mexican people have used fibers from the leaves. The water stored in the flowering stalks of this plant, rich in salts and minerals, is sold in Mexico as a sport drink.
