Climbing Nasturtium will need trellising.  Use this nasturium to quickly cover a wall or any area in the garden that needs quick colour.  An easy to grow annual, as a bonus, the flowers and leaves are edible, delicious in salads, omelets or on a sandwich.    Plant in situ in early spring and throughout summer.  Should you live in a frost area, plant after the last frost is finished, or start early indoors.  They can be transplanted.  Sow 1 cm deep, the temperature must be about 20 to 25 degrees C for best germination.  Do not let germinating seeds dry out, and carefully look after the seedlings.  Once the plants are established, they thrive in poorer soils and need watering occasionaly.  If there is no rain for about a week, they will need watering or in the middle of the hot summers a bit more often.   Do not over feed, as the plants will produce lush foliage at the expense of the flowers.  View our other items by clicking on the shield

Nepenthes popularly known as tropical pitcher plants or monkey cups, is a genus of carnivorous plants in the monotypic family Nepenthaceae. The genus comprises roughly 140 species, and numerous natural and many cultivated hybrids. The greatest diversity occurs on Borneo, Sumatra, and the Philippines, with many endemic species. Many are plants of hot, humid, lowland areas, but the majority are tropical montane plants, receiving warm days but cool to cold, humid nights year round. A few are considered tropical alpine, with cool days and nights near freezing. The name "monkey cups" refers to the fact that monkeys have been observed drinking rainwater from these plants. Nepenthes species usually consist of a shallow root system and a prostrate or climbing stem, often several metres long and up to 15 m (49 ft) or more, and usually 1 cm (0.4 in) or less in diameter, although this may be thicker in a few species (e.g. N. bicalcarata). From the stems arise alternate, sword-shaped leaves with entire leaf margins. An extension of the midrib (the tendril), which in some species aids in climbing, protrudes from the tip of the leaf; at the end of the tendril the pitcher forms. The pitcher starts as a small bud and gradually expands to form a globe- or tube-shaped trap. The trap contains a fluid of the plant's own production, which may be watery or syrupy, and is used to drown the prey. Research has shown this fluid contains viscoelastic biopolymers that may be crucial to the retention of insects within the traps of many species. The trapping efficiency of this fluid remains high, even when significantly diluted by water, as inevitably happens in wet conditions. The lower part of the trap contains glands which absorb nutrients from captured prey. Along the upper inside part of the trap is a slick, waxy coating which makes the escape of its prey nearly impossible. Surrounding the entrance to the trap is a structure called the peristome (the "lip") which is slippery and often quite colorful, attracting prey, but offering an unsure footing. Above the peristome is a lid (the operculum); in many species, this keeps rain from diluting the fluid within the pitcher, the underside of which may contain nectar glands which attract prey. Prey usually consists of insects, but the largest species may occasionally catch small vertebrates, such as rats and lizards. There are even records of cultivated plants trapping small birds. The pack will contain a mix of lowland and hybrid nepenthes species.   Please familiarise yourself with the shipping info below Shipping Rates are as listed below Approximate processing and transit times are listed below PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE OF SOUTH AFRICA

Passiflora quadrangularis  Seeds Passiflora quadrangularis, also named Passiflora macrocarpa or Giant Granadilla, is a perennial vine, looking much like Passiflora alata, but its flowers are bigger. Native to Central and South America it is grown for its large ornamental fragrant flowers and the large fruits. It climbs by means of clinging tendrils and can be kept as a container plant. The long tendrils need lots of support for climbing. It is a fast growing vine which can grow over 15 meters high. It may be grown as a houseplant in a sunny window. A vigorous tropical vine with large bright green oval leaves, 7-13 cm long, 6-10 cm wide. The stems are quadrangular in shape. One of the loveliest and most exotic of the Passion flowers producing gorgeous purple, white and blue banded fragrant flowers, measuring 8-10 cm across in a long succession from mid-Summer to Autumn. It produces giant green to yellow Passion fruits reaching over one foot in diameter. The pulp is white or greyish and is not as flavourful as the common Passion fruit, but still tasty and often eaten or used in drinks. It rarely produces fruit under greenhouse conditions but makes up for this by the sheer glory of its flowers. Pruning is a must to keep the vine healthy. Prune off less vigorous growth and occasionally prune back vigorous growth to promote flowering. When established, and without care, the passion fruit can easily overtake other garden plants, shading them from sun. Protect from frost or plant in frost free areas. The Giant Granadilla is hardy to 35°F when mature, frost tender when young. Provide ideally a temperature of 15°- 28°C. Keep the atmosphere humid through the summer and place in full sun, can tolerate partial shade. Passiflora quadrangularis loves the warm humid Tropics. You may need to water your plants on a daily basis during the hottest summer months. During the winter the roots should be kept moist, but as growth will be much slower you will probably only need to water once a week, depending on growing temperature. It will do best in a loam based mix with a little peat moss. If their pot is too large or if they have an unrestricted root run then the whole plant will simply get bigger and bigger but it will refuse to flower and therefore produce the fruits. By limiting the pot size you are limiting the ability to grow and this is seen as a threat, so the natural mechanism is to produce seed for the next generation. A suitably sized pot for an adult plant would generally be of 30cm in diameter. On offer is a pack of 5 Seeds
