In the ’s, Charles Eames set out to design a modern answer to the Edwardian English club chair as a birthday gift for his good friend, the Academy Award-winning film director Billy Wilder. Today, the Eames Lounger and Ottoman is one of the most recognised and admired pieces of furniture of the 20th century, occupying many illustrious living rooms, studies, lounges and dens – and a permanent place in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
