. Book Description: Pantheon, New York, 2005. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. - First American Edition. First Printing. No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, Book 6. - The charming and ever-resourceful Precious Ramotswe finds herself overly beset by problems. She is already busier than usual at the detective agency when added to her concerns are a strange intruder in her house on Zebra Drive and the baffling appearance of a pumpkin. And then there is Mma Makutsi, who decides to treat herself to dance lessons, only to be partnered with a man who seems to have two left feet. Nor are things running quite as smoothly as they usually do at Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors. Mma Ramotswe's husband, the estimable Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, is overburdened with work even before one of his apprentices runs off with a wealthy woman. But what finally rattles Mma Ramotswe's normally unshakable composure is a visitor who forces her to confront a secret from her past.... All this unfolds against the sunlit background of Mma Ramotswe's beloved homeland, Botswana - a land of empty spaces, echoing skies, and an endless supply of soothing bush tea. *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

Excerpt from Document Showing the Testimony Given Before the Judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of the State of Missouri, on the Trial of Joseph Smith, Jr., And Others, for High Treason, and Other Crimes Against That State: February 15, 1841 As regards the affair at 'de Witt, I know little personally; but I heard Mr. S. Rigdon say they had gone down to De Witt, where it was said a mob had collected to wage war upon the Mormons residing in Carroll county; and that Joseph Smith, jr., with his friends, went down to De Witt to give aid and help to, his brethren. The company, as I presume, were armed. They returned armed. Hiram Sm'nh and George W. Robinson were in the company. 'amasa Lyman went to seewhat was going on. He heard these persons say they were in Hinkle's camp (at De Witt) several days. When the Mormons returned from De Witt, it/was rumored that a mob was col leeting in Daviess county. Joseph Smith, ir., the Sunday, before the late disturbances in'daviess, at a church meeting, gave notice that he wished the whole county collected on the next day (monday) at Far West. He declared (on Sunday or Monday - rl don't recollect which) that all who did not take up arms in defence of the Mormons of Daviess. Should be consid ered as tories, and should take their exit from the country. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.  Tears of the Giraffe (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #2) by Alexander McCall Smith. There are 5 available at R20 each   "This is a superior piece of detective fiction, written in simple, direct but effective prose. Perhaps most importantly, this novel offers a refreshingly positive picture of an African nation - and probably deserves a wide audience in the West on those grounds alone." In 1999 The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency received two Booker Judges' Special Recommendations and was voted one of the ‘International Books of the Year and the Millennium' by the Times Literary Supplement.  Tears of the Giraffe takes us further into the life of the engaging and sassy Precious Ramotswe, the owner and detective of Botswana's only Ladies' detective agency. Among her cases are wayward wives, unscrupulous maids and a challenge to resolve a mother's pain for her son, who is long lost on the African plains. Mma Ramotswe's own impending marriage to that most gentlemanly of men, Mr. J. L. B. Matekoni, the promotion of her secretary to the dizzy heights of Assistant Detective and new additions to the Matekoni family, all brew up the most humorous and charmingly entertaining of tales.

Directed by Bob Clark. He wasn't born with the name Maniac Magee. He came into this world named Jeffrey Lionel Magee, but when his parents died and his life changed, so did his name. And Maniac Magee became a legend. Even today kids talk about how fast he could run; about how he hit an inside-the-park "frog" homer; how no knot, no matter how snarled, would stay that way once he began to untie it. But the thing Mania Magee is best known for is what he did for the kids from the East Side and those from the West Side. He was special all right, and this is his story, and it's a story that is very careful not to let the facts get mixed up with the turth.
