The SPS comes with or without batteries in case you already have batteries or want to source them elsewhere. The battery is an essential component of any back up power system. It will determine how long the system will run, how deep you can drain the battery and how many times you can discharge it (cycle life). The three standard battery types below can all be called “deep cycle”. The SPS can use any one of them but the performance they give is significantly different. Sealed wet cell batteries are the least expensive but have the shortest life expectancy. AGM batteries are the type most commonly used in inverter back-up systems. They are best if not allowed to drop below 50 percent discharge. Gel cell batteries are tolerant to very deep cycle applications below 50 percent discharge and have a cycle life twice that of AGM or Wet Cell.
