(This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. This series emphasizes a thorough analysis of textual, linguistic, structural, and theological evidence. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship. Overview of Commentary Organization Introduction covers issues pertaining to the whole book, including context, date, authorship, composition, interpretive issues, purpose, and theology. Each section of the commentary includes: Pericope Bibliography a helpful resource containing the most important works that pertain to each particular pericope. Translation the author s own translation of the biblical text, reflecting the end result of exegesis and attending to Hebrew and Greek idiomatic usage of words, phrases, and tenses, yet in reasonably good English. Notes the author s notes to the translation that address any textual variants, grammatical forms, syntactical constructions, basic meanings of words, and problems of translation. Form/Structure/Setting a discussion of redaction, genre, sources, and tradition as they concern the origin of the pericope, its canonical form, and its relation to the biblical and extra-biblical contexts in order to illuminate the structure and character of the pericope. Rhetorical or compositional features important to understanding the passage are also introduced here. Comment verse-by-verse interpretation of the text and dialogue with other interpreters, engaging with current opinion and scholarly research. Explanation brings together all the results of the discussion in previous sections to expose the meaning and intention of the text at several levels: (1) within the context of the book itself; (2) its meaning in the OT or NT; (3) its place in the entire canon; (4) theological relevance to broader OT or NT issues. General Bibliography occurring at the end of each volume, this extensive bibliographycontains all sources used anywhere in the commentary. " Format:Hardback Pages:344

First published under the title Das Parfum in 1985, Perfume:  The Story of a Murderer is a novel written by German author  Patrick Süskind. The book got wide attention because it is  a literary historical cross-genre work. With the main themes  including identity, communication, and human morality and spirit, the novel digs deep into a quite unique subject, which is the sense of smell. It explores how scents are able to carry and convey different emotional meanings and how people perceive those meanings by catching the sense with their sense of smell.      E-books promote Reading - which increases Knowledge - which Empowers - which increases one's level of  Confidenc e   A Great Investment - by any standard - this is a Must Have !!

Paperback Dogon cosmology provides a new Rosetta stone for reinterpreting Egyptian hieroglyphs  • Provides a new understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphs as scientific symbols based on Dogon cosmological drawings  • Use parallels between Dogon and Egyptian word meanings to identify relationships between Dogon myths and modern science  In  The Science of the Dogon, Laird Scranton demonstrated that the cosmological structure described in the myths and drawings of the Dogon runs parallel to modern science--atomic theory, quantum theory, and string theory--their drawings often taking the same form as accurate scientific diagrams that relate to the formation of matter. Scranton also pointed to the close resemblance between the keywords and component elements of Dogon cosmology and those of ancient Egypt, and the implication that ancient cosmology may also be about actual science. Sacred Symbols of the Dogon  uses these parallels as the starting point for a new interpretation of the Egyptian hieroglyphic language. By substituting Dogon cosmological drawings for equivalent glyph-shapes in Egyptian words, a new way of reading and interpreting the Egyptian hieroglyphs emerges. Scranton shows how each hieroglyph constitutes an entire concept, and that their meanings are scientific in nature. Using the Dogon symbols as a “Rosetta stone,” he reveals references within the ancient Egyptian language that define the full range of scientific components of matter: from massless waves to the completed atom, even suggesting direct correlations to a fully realized unified field theory.

(This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) Definitions are often the first step toward granting or denying a person's rights. The Guide's aim is to provide precise meaning and content for terms such as "terrorism," "refugee," "genocide," and "intervention"-terms that the media have introduced into everyday conversation, yet whose legal and political meanings are often obscure. The Practical Guide to Humanitarian Law explains the terms, concepts, and rules of humanitarian law in accessible and reader-friendly alphabetical entries. Written from the perspective of victims and those who bring them assistance, the Guide outlines the dangers, spells out the law, and points the way toward dealing with violators and violations of the law. Entries in the Guide are complemented by detailed bibliographic references; addresses, phone numbers, and internet addresses of the organizations presented; a thematic index; and an up-to-date list of the status of ratification of the more than twenty international conventions and treaties concerning humanitarian law, human rights, refugees, and international criminal law. The films show a young Black man in a state of remission from leukaemia, in therapy with Carl Rogers. The emerging knowledge and innovative clinical practices that arise from the analysis in the various chapters are all ultimately concerned with multicultural and diversity issues in counselling and psychotherapy. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days This book explores graded expressions of modality, a rich and underexplored source of insight into modal semantics. Studies on modal language to date have largely focussed on a small and non-representative subset of expressions, namely modal auxiliaries such as must, might, and ought. Here, Daniel Lassiter argues that we should expand the conversation to include gradable modals such as more likely than, quite possible, and very good. He provides an introduction to qualitative and degree semantics for graded meaning, using the Representational Theory of Measurement to expose the complementarity between these apparently opposed perspectives on gradation. The volume explores and expands the typology of scales among English adjectives and uses the result to shed light on the meanings of a variety of epistemic and deontic modals. It also demonstrates that modality is deeply intertwined with probability and expected value, connecting modal semantics with the cognitive science of uncertainty and choice. Life is not a bed of roses, God is not an old man sitting in a cloud, winning isn't everything. Some negations, however, are more informative than others. Thinking about why an egg is not an elephant won't get you very far, whereas realizing life is not a dress rehearsal might. It's a reminder that this life is a one-shot deal, and if you mess it up, there's no second try." In Should You Judge This Book by Its Cover?, philosopher Julian Baggini examines the meanings behind a host of everyday expressions. Is it really always better to practice what you preach? To do as the Romans do? To be safe, not sorry? In his quest for clarity in everyday language, Baggini leaves no saying behind as he considers such expressions as "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Far from a reference book, this entertaining collection is full of short, stimulating capsules of defiantly clear thinking that are meant to fuel thought and conversation. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days Koen Wessing's "Chili, September 1973" is a shocking account of government brutality, from a socially concerned and politically engaged Dutch photojournalist who has gone on to make similarly powerful images in Ireland, Chile, Guinea-Bissau, Nicaragua, El Salvador, China, Berlin and Amsterdam. First published in 1973, just months after the fall of Salvador Allende to Augusto Pinochet's coup d'etat, it describes the tense days of the military attempt to root out public opposition in the streets of Santiago, and has since become one of documentary photography's most exemplary moments. This entry in Errata Editions' "Books on Books" series reproduces every spread from Wessing's gritty documentation of Chile's darkest historical moment; art historian and film theorist Pauline Terreehorst contributes a contemporary essay titled "The Man in the Grey Suit: Koen Wessing: Chili 1973." Errata Editions' "Books on Books" series is an ongoing publishing project dedicated to making rare and out-of-print photography books accessible to students and photobook enthusiasts. These are not reprints or facsimiles but complete studies of the original books. Each volume in the series presents the entire content, page for page, of an original master bookwork which, up until now, has been too rare or expensive for most to experience. Through a mix of classic and contemporary titles, this series spans the breadth of photographic practice as it has appeared on the printed page and allows further study of the creation and meanings of these great works of art. Each volume in the series contains illustrations of every page in the original photobook, a new essay by an established writer on photography, production notes about the creation of the original edition and biographical and bibliographical information about each artist. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Sometimes popular music registers our concerns and anxieties more lucidly than we realise. This is evident in the case of an ideal of childhood innocence in rapid decay in recent decades. So claims Down with Childhood, as it takes in psychedelia's preoccupation with rebirth and inner-children, the fascination with juvenilia amidst an ebbing UK rave scene and dozens of nursery rhyme hip-hop choruses spawned by a hit Jay-Z tune.As it examines the often complex sets of meanings to which the occasional presence of children in pop songs attests, the book pauses at Musical Youth's 'Pass the Dutchie' and other one-hit teen wonders, the career paths of child stars including Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, radical experiments in free jazz, and Black Panther influenced children's soul groups. In the process, a novel argument begins to emerge relating the often remarked crisis of childhood to changing experiences of work and play and ultimately, to an ongoing capitalist crisis that underlies them. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days The views and experiences of multiracial people as parents The world's multiracial population is considered to be one of the fastest growing of all ethnic groups. In the United States alone, it is estimated that over 20% of the population will be considered "mixed race" by 2050. Public figures-such as former President Barack Obama and Hollywood actress Ruth Negga-further highlight the highly diverse backgrounds of those classified under the umbrella term of "multiracial." Multiracial Parents considers how mixed-race parents identify with and draw from their cultural backgrounds in raising and socializing their children. Miri Song presents a groundbreaking examination of how the meanings and practices surrounding multiracial identification are passed down through the generations. A revealing portrait of how multiracial identity is and is not transmitted to children, Multiracial Parents focuses on couples comprised of one White and one non-white minority, who were mostly "first generation mixed," situating her findings in a trans-Atlantic framework. By drawing on detailed narratives about the parents' children and family lives, this book explores what it means to be multiracial, and whether multiracial identity and status will matter for multiracial people's children. Many couples suggested that their very existence (and their children's) is a step toward breaking down boundaries about the meaning of race and that the idea of a mixed-race population is increasingly becoming normalized, despite existing concerns about racism and racial bias within and beyond various communities. A critical perspective on contemporary multiracial families, Multiracial Parents raises fundamental questions about the future significance of racial boundaries and identities.
