Matt Biolos is one of the global leaders in surfboard design and technology, always on the cutting edge of design and new material construction. With a global surf team of note providing constant feedback, you can be sure that your board is packed with years of research and development, to give you the maximum amount of help while surfing. This ensures hours of fun in the water and the ability to improve your surfing rather than fighting with equipment that is not right for you. Matt visits South Africa at least once a year to check in on the factory and off course surf the amazing waves we are blessed with here in South Africa. He knows and understands the various wave set ups here in South Africa which is priceless when it comes to getting you the right board. First designed as a stubby, hot dogging, tube hounding machine for Kolohe Andino, this board continues to remain popular, year after year. With proponents praising its worth around the world, it remains a vital part of our line up. Its screaming fast low entry rocker, a wide-ish nose and ¿Driver¿ tail rocker, its one of the fastest down the line boards we have ever had. The Round pin tail retains generous surface area and still has pop, even in smallish surf. A very clean and elliptical outline that moves free and easy inside the tube. The Mini Driver performed as hoped for Kolohe, but has also been a proven player in even weekend afternoon Grom comp, in 2¿ wind slop. The board works in everything and is still a custom order favorite around the globe. He knows and understands the various wave set ups here in South Africa which is priceless when it comes to getting you the right board. The board that Kolohe Andino rode as a WQS surfer, and used to qualify for the WCT (at 17 years old). Probably the most popular and successful small wave contest board we have ever made. Similar to The Driver, but with a wider nose and significantly wider tail block. The low tail rocker works with a generous nose lift. It commands and demands a surfer to really use their rear foot, and commit to turns. Not for a flicky, front footed snappy surfer, but for proper rail and tail driving. This is also the board that Mick Fanning pulled out of our rafters, and used in the Hurley Pro 2012, at Lowers. It basically forced him to re-think what his idea of the modern contest surfboard was. Kolohe qualifying on, and Mick¿s performance on and praise of The Sub Driver, are two major points in ¿Losts competitive board building history. Whether as a 5¿11 squash tail, 6¿0 round tail, or stretched to a 6¿1 round pin¿It is still his main rocker for the WCT events to this day. Defined by a long, straight rocker through the middle of the board that then lifts to a healthy nose rocker (so the board redirects when put on a rail) and a low, but curvy tail rocker that¿s moved way back under the rear foot. A board that likes to be ¿Driven¿ by a strong and forceful surfer, who uses their strength and commitment to the rail, in turning a board. Surfers like Julian Wilson and Tyler Wright have also used Drivers to win World Tour events. A great Shortboard for any strong surfer who might tend to overpower most flicky or loose rockered boards. He knows and understands the various wave set ups here in South Africa which is priceless when it comes to getting you the right board. When it¿s really small and mushy you can forget the long board. Originally inspired after trying a friend¿s ¿Mini Simmons¿ twin keel, retro board in knee high lumps. The board was fast and fun, but I couldn¿t really lay into it. Motivated to do better, I hand shaped a ¿Green Foam¿ recycled fish blank and attacked the 6¿0¿ blank like a high school sculpture project¿. keeping in mind the unique glide of that ¿Simmons¿. The blank was pretty thin, so I left the deck flat. It¿s really wide, so no concave. Looking for ridiculous glide, but demanding aggressive turning, I left it really straight rockered, but did a little flip out the back. I made it a strong bump, diamond tail. In place of the twin keels, wanting a more reliable feeling, I chose to make it a quad, and used a Future Fins solid glass fin we have been playing with as the template. That first ¿Plank¿ was about 6¿0¿ x 22¿ x 2.5¿ full, and was the easiest board I have ever ridden in waves I would normally only bother with on a long board. The ¿Plank¿ catches anything and does full rail roundhouse cutbacks on 10¿ high lumps of water. If you like the way it looks, and want a truly unique and extreme small wave tool to keep you off that log, then think about custom ordering one of these. I guarantee you won¿t be let down.
