There is a gift inscription present. Pages are slightly tanned First published in 1929 this fine book gives and intimate picture of the early years of South Africa - the Boer War etc. and discusses many famous people of the time.  (Please see thumbnails for all photographs relating to the condition of this book) Please note that, where applicable, all dustjackets will be covered with a clear removable film before shipping - they have been photographed without the protective film in order to more accurately represent them.

In 1828 he moved to Graaff-Reinet, and from there accompanied a party of hunters across the Orange River. On his return he bought the printing press of Godlonton and Stringfellow, which had previously been confiscated by Governor Donkin, and set up a Printing Works in Grahamstown, when only twenty years of age. The border Settlers immediately implored him to bring out a newspaper, and he decided to establish the Graham's Town Journal. Sixty Years Ago gives an interesting account of all that this involved, and includes many light-hearted anecdotes of life on the frontier in those perilous days. I believe this book to be one of the first self-help Medical Guide books to be used at home in the US. There are lots and lots of home remedies; some are very amusing, but may have very well worked! believe the name of this book was later used by Pearl Jam in the 1990's for one of their album titles. Condition is GOOD ! There is slight rubbing of the covers at bottom and along one side of the spine.
