The physics, while rudimentary, give you a vivid sense of Peter Pan's weight, and the controls make moving him around a very intuitive affair. The missions are pretty simple, just right for younger gamers. But elements from the Disney movie sequel on which the game is supposedly based are completely absent. So instead of the film's story, which mixes scenes from both Neverland and WWII-era London, the game offers a completely generic plot about a secret map and hidden treasure. In fact, it verges on false advertising for this game to even bear the name of the film. The game also suffers from interminable load times--if your character perishes, you even have wait while the same level loads again. Taken not as an adaptation of a film, but as a good, basic adventure for younger gamers, though, the game is just fine. The environments are fun to explore, and the action is just challenging enough to keep things interesting without making them frustrating. --David Stoesz

The action is completely original with the aim being not to run and jump from one platform to another but to reach the end of the level by flying. Of course, there will be numerous challenges to try and prevent you from doing it. Otherwise, the gameplay and story will be very familiar to owners of the previous versions: the evil General Viggo, a very large and pompous cat, has kidnapped the Fur Fighters' various puppies, kittens, baby dragons etc and you must help the worried parents retrieve their offspring. Each of the characters has unique abilities (burrowing and climbing walls for example) and some areas can only be reached utilising these talents, which means that there is much swapping of character in each level. You're equipped with a variety of weaponry, which can be upgraded--a personal favourite is the Multiple Meerkat add-on. Content-wise there's nothing to upset younger gamers (though they may be bewildered by the concept of the family pet armed with a shotgun) but the sheer scale of the levels means that Fur Fighters will really only be appreciated by more experienced gamers. With its dreadfully cheesy in-jokes and varied gameplay, this is definitely for anyone who has enjoyed a Rare tile on the N64. There's even a multiplayer "Fluffmatch" option. With its dreadfully cheesy in-jokes and varied gameplay, this is definitely for anyone who has enjoyed a Rare tile on the N64. There's even a multiplayer "Fluffmatch" option. Sabrina and her faithful cat Salem follow their aunts through a magic portal; there they discover that the Spooky Man--a baddie, of course--has kidnapped them in order to steal their magic powers, along with those of the world's other witches and wizards. Sabrina sets out to foil the Spooky Man's plan, using a range of spells across four different gaming worlds. The game takes a platform format--you move around and over obstacles knocking out the enemy on the way. Zapping presents is a good idea, as this reveals goodies like extra health, spells and extra lives. Each level has an exit portal that is only opened when you've found three crystals, and when Sabrina gets to a portal she has to survive a trap set by the Spooky Man. There are no short cuts to getting this job done. You can switch between controlling Sabrina or Salem; Salem is quite small, so very useful for getting through tiny spaces--but he can't defeat enemies so you need to think carefully about when best to use him. The gameplay is what you'd expect from the genre: the screen design is bright and cheerful and there are plenty of baddies to remove and useful items to collect. It also includes 15 Fluffmatch maps for four-player split-screen cuddly combat. Review Fur Fighters was originally released last year on the Dreamcast and PC to great reviews and poor sales. This was mainly because it was perceived as a children-only title rather than what it was: a challenging and in-depth hybrid of platformer and shoot-'em-up in funny animal clothing. This time round Acclaim are aiming at a wider audience; the cover art is by Simon Bisley of 2000 AD fame and the already impressive in-game graphics have been give the cell-shading treatment seen previously in Jet Set Radio. Otherwise, the gameplay and story will be very familiar to owners of the previous versions: the evil General Viggo, a very large and pompous cat, has kidnapped the Fur Fighters' various puppies, kittens, baby dragons etc and you must help the worried parents retrieve their offspring. You do this by exploring various vaguely familiar locations (New Quack City) and tangling with Viggo's various henchmen and bosses. Each of the characters has unique abilities (burrowing and climbing walls for example) and some areas can only be reached utilising these talents, which means that there is much swapping of character in each level. You're equipped with a variety of weaponry, which can be upgraded--a personal favourite is the Multiple Meerkat add-on. Content-wise there's nothing to upset younger gamers (though they may be bewildered by the concept of the family pet armed with a shotgun) but the sheer scale of the levels means that Fur Fighters will really only be appreciated by more experienced gamers.
