Shortly after the Fall of France and the armistice June 1940, the newly installed Vichy government decided to simply annul the 1939 Croix de Guerre and institute their own version.  The Vichy version was very similar but with modified reverse dates and the ribbon was changed from green and red, to green and black.     Up for bid is a high relief, pewter U.S. Congressional Medal reproduction commemorating American Revolutionary War Major General Nathanael Greene, frequently misspelled Nathaniel! Medal awarded to Major General Nathanael Greene for defeating the British at Eutaw in 1781. The original was engraved by Augustin Dupré. Obverse: Left profile bust of Nathanael Greene in uniform. Latin inscription reads: "The American Congress to Nathaniel Greene, a distinguished general". The reverse depicts a winged Victory holding a crown of laurel in her right hand, and a palm branch in her left; one foot on a trophy of arms and flags of the conquered enemy. The reverse legend translates to "The enemy vanquished at Eutaw on the 8th of September 1781." Reproduced in pewter for the U.S. Bicentennial! Medal is 38 mm in diameter and weighs 21.3 grams!
