A great looking book in a great looking wrapper - Headline 1992.   >>>   James wrote  " 4 of 5 stars to   The Cat Who Knew a Cardinal, the 12th book in a 29-book series, written in 1991 by  Lilian Jackson Braun. In this cozy little myster y, Qwill must solve a murder that's happened on his own property. This is the one that explores the greatness of the converted barn he lives in on the apple orchard. Koko goes a little cuckoo over the cardinal that seems to be harassing him from the trees. And the theatre crowd comes over to visit Qwill every night after the show... not for nothing, but this guy's got a more active life than me. They probably don't finish the show until after 10. If guests showed up every night at my place after 10, I'd not be a happy camper. But it makes for a cool mystery when the one everyone hates is found dead in the garden. Maybe Qwill couldn't take it anymore and pushed himself over the line this time... or perhaps the killer realizes Qwill is on to him or her... great scene in the converted barn -- it's 3 stories high and has a few episodes of danger. Someone could fall easily... and of course, someone eventually does. ·         *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage for each of the additional books -   See what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while.

Gary immortalized what he learned in the books of his bestselling series: The Disappearance of the Universe, Your Immortal Reality and Love Has Forgotten No One. This fourth book is a companion to the original trilogy, yet written to stand alone, an invitation for new readers into this fascinating work. This book explores seven of the lifetimes in which the incarnations of Jesus and Buddha lived together, beginning in 700 B.C. when they were known as Saka and Hiroji. Arten and Pursah, through the spiritual lessons that Jesus and Buddha learn on their path, clarify the difference between duality and non-duality. When you are able to internalize these lessons, you will be saved countless years in your spiritual development. Sadly this 1938 book does not have a dust wrapper and the first blank page has been removed - Rest quite good.   >>> C ontains a chapter of autobiographical material relating to Hilton's own schooldays and his thoughts on the English public school system and how the world he knew was about to be changed by the coming shadow of WW2.  The remaining chapters are additional stories about Chips, the legendary acting headmaster of Brookfield School, and are largely concerned with Chips' deep psychological understanding about what makes a boy tick.  Most poignant of all is the last story in which Chips attempts to cheer up the boys during the dark days of 1917 as the horrors of the first world war loom ever larger, by organising a lavish Christmas party.  Alas a flu epidemic puts paid to his plans, and as the school breaks up early for an extended holiday, the boys are delighted, while poor Chips is left to contemplate a lonely Christmas at Brookfield.   ·         *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage for each of the additional books - See what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while.

Book looks about new - does have pevious owner's name inside ***  I'd wondered about my mother all my life -- what she looked like, how she smelled and sounded and acted. Lately this wondering had grown to encompass a curiosity about the kind of people she herself came from, because they were my family, too, after all, even though I knew nothing about them. I'd no idea whether they were loud or soft-spoken, funny or boring, preferred chocolate to vanilla, if they liked movies over books or the other way around. I wondered whether any of them had ever done anything magnificent in their lives, or if they were the kind of folks who were satisfied with just getting by. These things were important -- knowing them would help me to know myself, and the only way that would happen was if I went and looked for her.  ***  With all his possessions on his motorcycle, Billy Mann sets off on a cross-country odyssey from New York to Santa Fe in search of a mother who deserted him long ago. What Billy discovers, however, is a life rich with possibility -- the chance for love, friendship, and, finally, a family to call his own. *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

Book and wrapper in very good condition,   >>>   About four months after the retreat from Dunkirk, Detective-Sergeant George Ormerod in London becomes very deeply involved with the rape-murder of a young girl he knew (""I was livid, plain bloody angry, that this young girl's life should be snuffed out by some animal who couldn't control himself""). The rapist-killer is now a soldier, hiding in France, and coincidentally the British Army has just decided that an expendable agent should be sent into Normandy to assist a young Frenchwoman who has orders from the British to set up a series of underground Resistance centers throughout Normandy. So when Ormerod explains his vendetta to a British general, the general decides that Ormerod is the perfect expendable man to send along with the Frenchwoman and protect her. The two, who are codenamed Dodo and Dove, are unloaded by sub onto a small French island in the channel, where they become involved in their first Resistance murder--two German soldiers. Soon they are passengers to the mainland on a German ferry, and then they set off through Normandy with a little mongrel named Formidable. Dodo and Dove fall halfway in love as they set up cells and perform acts of sabotage and slowly work their way through Normandy towards Paris.... Leslie Thomas has a gentle, amusing way with his small-minded but persistent detective hero who must finally go home to his wife, making this a familiar but charming slice of intrigue.  * Crime * Detection *  ·         *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage for each of the additional books - See what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while.

Thirteen acres in the middle of San Francisco Bay, home to the most dangerous men of their time.  There was no gas chamber, no gallows, no quick way out. Sealed off and separate, it brooded over its inmates.    Robert Stroud, grandson of a judge, was one. Sentenced to life in solitary confinement, he found solace in the birds that landed outside his cell window. For years he studied them, trained them and eventually wrote several books on their behavior. Remarkably, Stroud spent nearly 40 years in solitary before he died -- he never knew "alcatraz" means "pelican," or that early settlers called it "Bird Island."   * Prison *    *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me you only pay R 6 postage on each additional book   – see what else I have to offer, it might be worth your while.

Chasing a map tattooed on human skin. Across an omniverse of intersecting realities. To unravel the future of the future. This is an ex-lib but book and wrapper remain in very good condition    >>>     90-year-old General Fentiman was definitely dead, but no one knew exactly when he had died -- and the time of death was the determining factor in a half-million-pound inheritance. Lord Peter Wimsey would need every bit of his amazing skills to unravel the mysteries of why the General's lapel was without a red poppy on Armistice Day, how the club's telephone was fixed without a repairman, and, most puzzling of all, why the great man's knee swung freely when the rest of him was stiff with rigor mortis.    .   *N.B.*   If you buy more than one book from me on the same day you only pay R 6 extra postage for each of the additional books - See what else I have to offer, it might just be worth your while.
