VICTORIA AND ALBERT Synopsis: England was her empire Albert was her heart. BBC proudly present the compellingtale of the original Victorian romance - a love affair that changed the world. The world remembers Queen Victoria as a staid and stately dowager in black. But when the teenaged Drina ascended to the throne, she was a vibrant young woman of powerful emotions, which found their greatest outlet in her consuming love for her German-born husband, Prince Albert. VICTORIA AND ALBERT tells the true story of their remarkable union, a bond of passion, politics and power that helped restore dignity and respect to a monarchy long held in contempt. Victoria Hamilton (Mansfield Park, King Lear) and Jonathan Firth (Middlemarch, An Ideal Husband) play the royal couple to perfection, and the exceptional supporting cast includes Diana Rigg, Jonathan Pryce, Nigel Hawthorne and Sir Peter Ustinov.   Starring: Jonathan Pryce Diana Rigg   Category: Drama    Age Restriction: PG

This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) 'It was never meant to feed the needy; but to serve up grief to the mean and greedy' The unfortunately named Albert Grub (A. Grub) has parents who are obsessed by mini-beasts; there are insects in the fridge, woodlice living in the hall and spiders dwelling in the cupboard under the stairs. But everything changes one day when Albert discovers that his dad is heir to the factory of the legendary Piddler's Porridge. Why is the town's noodle King, and owner of the adjacent factory so keen to get his hands on the Piddler's place? Is he after the legendary Spoon of Doom, believed to be hidden somewhere in the factory? And what can our reluctant hero do to stop him? A mix of quirky characters and outlandish goings on topped with lashings of bugs and porridge, this is a laugh-out-loud comic adventure that will appeal especially to boys.

2008 Mahatma Ghandi 1/10oz Gold Proof   The Protea coin series commemorates various aspects and important events in the history of South Africa. The 2008 Protea Coin Series will feature Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi – better known as Mahatma Gandhi (1869 – 1948). Mahatma Gandhi lived in South Africa from April 1893 to July 1914 Although not South African by birth, he said “I was born in India, but I was made in South Africa”. He said these words because he first started with his campaign of “Ahimsa” (non-violence) and “Satyagraha” (way of truth) while he was campaigning for freedom in South Africa.   Gandhi influenced both nationalist and internationalist movements and brought the cause of India’s independence from British colonial rule to world attention. Gandhi’s principle of satyagraha (from Sanskrit satya: truth, and graha: grasp/hold), has also inspired other democratic activists, including Martin Luther King, Jr., John Lennon and the 14 th Dalai Lama.   The title of “Mahatma” (Sanskrit term of reverence “mahatma” meaning “one of great soul”) was accorded on Gandhi in 1915 by his admirer Rabindranath Tagore (the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature). It was given in response to Gandhi conferring the title of “Gurudev” Hindus and Muslims in India made Gandhi a target and he was shot and killed on 30 th  January 1948 by a Hindu extremist. It is ironic that this great pacifist, the first to employ non-violence in a political context, was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize! The 1960 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Chief Albert Luthuli from South Africa, applied Gandhi’s principles while fighting apartheid South Africa. The profound lessons Gandhi leant that South Africa, spurned him to stand-up and without violence fight for his beloved India, earning him the title of “Father of the Nation”
