Kaneshin concave branch cutters

Top sales list kaneshin concave branch cutters

South Africa
These Kaneshin Concave branch cutters are very versatile tools that can be used for a number of procedures. They are essentially a combination of two tools namely the branch cutter and knob or knuckle cutter, and thus are one of the most popular tools in the toolbox of any serious bonsai artist. They may in fact be considered to be general purpose cutters because they are capable of performing a variety of different cutting actions on different portions of the tree. In certain types of species, such as Chinese maples, the resulting scar tissue can bulge over the area from where a branch was removed is the cut was made flat. A concave cutter with spherical blades or a knuckle cutter is very useful in these circumstances. Either of these tools will create a concave cut so bulging can be avoided as the branch is removed completely from its base and cuts into the branch base to make the resulting cut concave in shape. If a flat cut was made it would be necessary to carve out the cut further, but by employing these tools both steps can be performed in one action. As with all our Kaneshin tools, these concave branch cutters are handmade by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen. Each tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Sizes 165mm Material Steel Origin Japan To cut safely without damaging the tool, the thickness of the branch you want to remove should be 1/3 - 1/2 of the size of the blade.

These branch cutters have a straight edge. In cheaper branch cutters the blades meet edge to edge. This often results in damaging the tools and blunting the cutting edge quite quickly, which leads to poor or unclean cuts on your trees. Such cuts take longer to heal and healing is not as smooth. However with the Kaneshin cutters the right blade overlaps the top of the left blade. In this way sharpness can be maintained for much longer and the cutter is in general more durable due to the use of better quality materials. Branch cutters, as the name suggests are primarily used to remove unwanted branches from bonsai trees or to shorten sacrifice branches to the desired length. We currently offer 3 different branch cutters; the standard shaped and a narrow branch cutter. The narrow cutter is suitable either for smaller trees and to access tight spaces, and also for removing stubs of branches from within a branch fork. These high quality branch cutters are made in Japan by craftsmen who have trained for a minimum of 10 years to achieve the skills required to product tools of such high precision.  As with all our Kaneshin tools, these branch cutters are handmade and e ach tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Size 180mm Material Black Steel Origin Japan If you prefer a concave cut then you should consider the Kaneshin concave branch cutters or the knuckle cutters. Tip: To cut safely and without potentially damaging the tool, the branch thickness to be cut cannot be more than 1/2 to 1/3rd the length of the blade.

After a branch is removed it is necessary to remove the stub which remains. These are removed with a knuckle or otherwise known as a spherical knob cutter which makes a precise cut and gouges out part of the stem so that callousing will not cause a swelling in this area. This is particularly the case with species where the scar tissue tends to bulge. Cuts made with a concave cut heals faster than straight cuts.  The spherical blades allow for the ideal combination of strength and precision, making for a clean "biting action" into the material. The cutting blades shaped like two halves of a sphere. This shapes allow it to cut aggressively into the wood so protruding stubs, or knobs, are quickly cut away, and then leaves wound that will heal flush with the branch or trunk for minimal scaring. In other words, this tool will create a hollow circular cut with one stroke that will enable the bonsai to heal quickly with minimum scarring. Knuckle cutters may also be used as a finishing tool to remove root or trunk material in areas that are difficult to reach using other tools. However extreme care should be taken when using knuckle cutters on roots as they are not as sturdy as root cutters and can be damaged if you accidentally cut into a stone. Another useful function of knuckle cutters is that they may be used to nibble away wood when carving deadwood. As with all our Kaneshin tools, these knuckle cutters are handmade by highly skilled Japanese craftsmen. Each tool is boxed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Size 150mm Material Steel Origin Japan To cut safely without damaging the tool, the thickness of the branch you want to remove should be 1/3 - 1/2 of the size of the blade.
