  (W) John Wagner & Various (A) Carlos Ezquerra, Various   Muties Out! The great Atomic Wars of 2070 created a population of mutants who, due in part to their bizarre (and in most cases grotesque) deformities, have been denied citizenship in Mega-City One. Rejected by the prejudiced "norms" and forcibly kept away from the city by the Judges, the mutants have had no choice but to live in the vast, radioactive wasteland known as the Cursed Earth. Harboring resentment and hatred against those that have exiled them, bands of mutants now prey on those that stray from behind the city walls - and sometimes even launch all-out attacks in a bid to gain entry to the Big Meg. This action-packed collection features classic encounters between Judge Dredd and mutantkind.

Thank you, Judge Mostert! - Carmel Rickard - Hard cover in good condition. Anton Mostert was one of South Africa's youngest judges when he was appointed to head a commission of inquiry into exchange control regulations in 1978. His inquiry, seemingly innocuous, unearthed what was at that time the greatest political scandal in the country's history - massive corruption in the department of information. In defiance of warnings by Prime Minister PW Botha not to disclose his findings, Mostert released all the evidence that had been led before him, exposing some of the most powerful men in the country and effectively changing history. The title of this book, Thank You, Judge Mostert! is taken from the inscription which appeared overnight on bumper stickers all over South Africa in the weeks following Judge Anton Mostert's revelations of the Information Scandal. This overt, spontaneous outburst of public appreciation and support requires history to be retold - for this is the story of a principled and courageous judge who not only fiercely fought for the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law in South Africa, but who also fearlessly confronted the Afrikaner executive at a critical juncture in South Africa's history.

Life is not a bed of roses, God is not an old man sitting in a cloud, winning isn't everything. Some negations, however, are more informative than others. Thinking about why an egg is not an elephant won't get you very far, whereas realizing life is not a dress rehearsal might. It's a reminder that this life is a one-shot deal, and if you mess it up, there's no second try." In Should You Judge This Book by Its Cover?, philosopher Julian Baggini examines the meanings behind a host of everyday expressions. Is it really always better to practice what you preach? To do as the Romans do? To be safe, not sorry? In his quest for clarity in everyday language, Baggini leaves no saying behind as he considers such expressions as "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" and "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Far from a reference book, this entertaining collection is full of short, stimulating capsules of defiantly clear thinking that are meant to fuel thought and conversation. Excerpt from Document Showing the Testimony Given Before the Judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of the State of Missouri, on the Trial of Joseph Smith, Jr., And Others, for High Treason, and Other Crimes Against That State: February 15, 1841 As regards the affair at 'de Witt, I know little personally; but I heard Mr. S. Rigdon say they had gone down to De Witt, where it was said a mob had collected to wage war upon the Mormons residing in Carroll county; and that Joseph Smith, jr., with his friends, went down to De Witt to give aid and help to, his brethren. The company, as I presume, were armed. They returned armed. Hiram Sm'nh and George W. Robinson were in the company. 'amasa Lyman went to seewhat was going on. He heard these persons say they were in Hinkle's camp (at De Witt) several days. When the Mormons returned from De Witt, it/was rumored that a mob was col leeting in Daviess county. Joseph Smith, ir., the Sunday, before the late disturbances in'daviess, at a church meeting, gave notice that he wished the whole county collected on the next day (monday) at Far West. He declared (on Sunday or Monday - rl don't recollect which) that all who did not take up arms in defence of the Mormons of Daviess. Should be consid ered as tories, and should take their exit from the country. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
