It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Jo Dunkley combines her expertise as an astrophysicist with her talents as a teacher and writer in this lively and exceptionally clear introduction to the structure and history of the universe and its enduring mysteries. Most of us have heard of black holes and supernovas, galaxies and the Big Bang. But few of us understand more than the bare facts about the universe we call home. What is really out there? How did it all begin? Where are we going? Jo Dunkley begins in Earth's neighborhood, explaining the nature of the Solar System, the stars in our night sky, and the Milky Way. She then moves out past nearby galaxies-and back in time-to the horizon of the observable universe, which contains over a hundred billion galaxies, each with billions of stars, many orbited by planets, some of which may host life. These visible objects in space sit in a web of dark matter, mysterious stuff we cannot see or yet understand. Dunkley traces the evolution of the universe from the Big Bang fourteen billion years ago, past the birth of the Sun and our planets, to today and beyond. She explains cutting-edge debates about such perplexing phenomena as the accelerating expansion of the universe and the possibility that our universe is only one of many. Our Universe conveys with authority and grace the thrill of scientific discovery and a contagious enthusiasm for the endless wonders of space-time. An extremely rare booklet printed for the publishers in February, 1896, by Fenwick & Co., Exley's Buildings, 17 Sauer Street in Johannesburg S.A.R. (South African Republic). This booklet was published a month after Dr. Leander Starr Jameson's infamous raid into the Transvaal Republic and is a very rare example of early Johannesburg printing. It is one of the very first books to be published in Jo'burg. 39pp. with adverts at rear and a very opportunistic, yet extremely humorous, advert on the front cover. Stapled binding. Book is in fine condition considering the age. Pages white with no markings. 'A brochure written as a counterblast to the pamphlet "The Revolution-and After." There is a summary of the charges against the Boers and their government, and it is stated that, "when the National Union gave up all hope, the Capitalists stepped in." The allegations in "The Revolution-and After" are denied in violent language, and it is asserted that a false letter, and an equally false telegram, were sent to Jameson, and that the Reform Committee were dumbfounded on receipt of the news that he had crossed the border. The author of Part II. purports "to give a true and impartial history of Jameson's ride, as furnished by one who was in it from start to finish," and full details are given of the Raid and the subsequent surrender. The is a government official list of the killed and wounded in Jameson's column; also the names of the Reform Committee, and the amounts subscribed by different firms and persons under the name of the Relief Fund, a list of "The Charter(ed) Prisoners," and the official account of the Boers killed and wounded.' 'I hadn't expected the Berlin Wall to be clean and white and smooth. It looked more like the edge of the swimming baths than the edge of the Cold War. On the grass of No-man's Land, fat rabbits ate and strolled about as if they'd never been hunted and nothing could disturb them. This was their land and they ruled it, and there were three parts to Berlin: East, West and Rabbit.' So when Eleanor is invited to spend a summer teaching in East Germany, she and Jess leap at the chance to see what the future looks like. On the other side of the Iron Curtain they turn from villains into heroes. And when Eleanor meets widower Peter and his daughter, Martina, a new, more peaceful life seems possible. But the Cold War has no time for love and soon the trouble starts. Peter is dispatched for two years of solidarity work in Laos. Friends become enemies, and Jess discovers how easy it is to switch sides, and how sides can be switched for you, sometimes without you even knowing. (This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 4-7 working days once ordered) "Swami Kripalu, affectionately known as Bapuji (or dear father), was one of the greatest Kundalini yogis of the 20th Century. Scholar, classical musician, composer, playwright, athlete, actor, and consummate story-teller, Bapuji was most renowned for his practice of sahaj or spontaneous yoga and his encyclopedic writings on yoga and classical music. He lived in the western state of Gujarat from 1913 to 1981. Although Bapuji visited the US from 1977-1981, few of his writings have been translated into English. Thus the full impact of his wisdom is yet to be felt in the west. Atma's thoughtful and creative approach to his life and teachings in "Pilgrim of Love" builds a strong foundation for getting to know this extraordinary master of yoga." --Stephen Cope, author of "Yoga and the Quest for the True Self" Kripalu Yoga, originally pioneered by Yogi Amrit Desai and later developed into a structured practice by key Kripalu teachers, provides an introduction to the life-transforming yogic principles that are Bapuji's legacy to Kripalu Center. With his teachings as its foundation, Kripalu Center is the largest residential yoga center in the world and is located in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Offering year-round trainings, programs and health services, Kripalu Center provides the means for guests to develop awareness, cultivate health, and embark on a journey of deep spiritual transformation--all through the application of the tools of yoga. Atma Jo Ann Levitt, M.A., R.N., is a certified yoga teacher, Healing Touch practitioner, and author of three books, including The Kripalu Cookbook: Gourmet Vegetarian Recipes. She pioneered many growth and wellness programs at Kripalu Center. She is coauthor of a book on sibling relationships, Sibling Revelry: 8 Steps to a Successful Adult Sibling Relationship.
