Title: Jagged Alliance 2 Gold Pack Platform: PC Condition: Good, no book   Jagged Alliance 2 is a RPG/Strategy hybrid where you lead an army of up to eighteen, quirky mercenaries on the island state of Arulco, which is ruled by the evil, despotic Queen Deirdranna. Through a campaign of terror, her army maintains control and exerts her will. Seeking to regain his throne, the rightful ruler hires you for $35,000 to assemble a rebel force to overthrow the queen. After recruiting a group of mercenaries and equipping them, you are wisked to the island to begin the resistance. As you capture mines, airports and cities, you must train local militias to defend your assets. As your army gains strength, you will see if you have the skills, organization and men to liberate Arulco. Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Pack was published by Strategy First on August 6, 2002 and adds the improvements of Unfinished Business to the final release of Jagged Alliance 2. The Unfinished Business and a scenario editor are also included in the package. The Gold Pack is typically considered the go-to version of the game for modding and replayability purposes, due to the relatively poor quality and commercial support of Wildfire and Flashback. Gold Pack introduces notable changes to the difficulty setting. Review Billed as the role-playing game for people that didn't like role-playing games, the original Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was a surprise smash in 2003; now the sequel, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, is here to carry on the good fight--almost literally, as the last game ended on a bit of cliff-hanger with our heroes being menaced by the vampire king Mordoc. Despite the Baldur's Gate name Dark Alliance II, with its real-time combat and simplified stats and rules, is more Gauntlet (or Diablo if you're too young to recognise that reference) than the Baldur's Gate PC games. This is not to imply that it's a simplistic button-basher, though; the combat is highly involved, with different styles of melee, distance and magic attacks depending on which character you choose to control. When you're not fighting (which isn't often) you can take part in those other stalwart features of the RPG genre, shopping and levelling up--both of which are made as easy and interesting as possible. If you're wondering what has changed or been improved for the sequel, the simple answer is not much.
