Enthralling multi-player gameplay for up to 8 players via LAN or over the Internet Product Description ReviewFor those of you who want the splendour of the Dark Ages with none of the side effects--scurvy, the Black Death, being burnt at the stake, etc.--then Stronghold might just be the answer. Basically it's a siege sim with some combat and Age of Empires-style resource management thrown in. The game is set at the height of the feudal system in England; there are two missions to play through, the story-based combat mission, or the standalone economic mission. The combat mission is the most story-based of the game elements. You are a young Knight whose father has been murdered whilst trying to reunite the kingdom. But your castle is the central focus and must be defended at all costs. The idea is to build a keep, towers and battlements, which you can use to your strategic advantage and defend against the enemy's forces. In Stronghold your adversary will come ready and armed with ladders and siege engines and will know how to use them. The economic aspect of the game owes more than a little to city-building sims such as Caesar and Pharaoh and follows a pretty standard RTS resource management formula. If you want to make bread you need to grow wheat, get it milled into flour and then build some bakeries to make the bread. You can't mine gold; you make it by taxing your peasants and trading your surplus supplies and build such edifices as churches, weaponsmiths, employ soldiers for your army and install a fire brigade. Despite the apparent complexity this is a remarkably intuitive game to play. The developers have added some really great elements and (whisper this) look like they have thought about how people play an RTS and tried to eliminate those frustrating fundamentals that drive you to using the CD as a coaster. The camera is not strictly 3-D, you can view the castle from either, north, south, east or west and to make sure that you can get rid of those annoying chinks in you wall which are hidden behind trees. Graphically it looks great. And there are some really nice animations (burning buildings and rabbit mutilation aside). The castles are a work of art and you can even get your spearmen to build moats so that you can go for that classic medieval edifice look. All in all, this is definitely more than the sum of its ramparts. --Kristen Bowditch Manufacturer's DescriptionStronghold is a unique cross between city builders such as Caesar III or Sim City and a RTS in the tradition of Command & Conquer and Age of Empires. Set in medieval Europe, players establish settlements, build and manage castles and engage in siege warfare. The game incorporates much more building and "community managing" than a traditional RTS, yet allows for a more intense combat experience than city builders have featured in the past.

Colin McRae Rally 3 (PC) Platform: Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows XP Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information Authentic high-performance rally cars recreated under license Cars include Mitsubishi Evo 7, Subaru Impreza 44S and Ford Focus RS WRC 56 stages in 8 countries including UK, Australia, Finland and Japan Full environmental graphics Destructible car body with fully operable component parts Drive for the record against your friends in multiplayer rally championship Improved physics and AI bring racers closer to the action Product Description Colin McRae Rally 3 on the PC captures the emotions and consequences of being a professional rally champion. It's an unbelievably personal gaming experience, as you become the globe's greatest rally driver, Colin McRae himself. Colin McRae Rally 3 makes a massive leap in terms of playability, motor sport detail, rich visuals and the perfect rally-car handling the series is renowned for. Above all, it delivers a game that captures every drop of sweat, the 150 decisions a minute and the teamwork that goes into being Colin McRae, who spent three years with Ford Rallye Sport. The main championship game is a gruelling series of races across eight international rallies: Japan, Spain, USA, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Australia and the UK are all included and offer tarmac, gravel, dirt and rain-soaked road surfaces. The championship game puts players through a three-year deal. Like the professionals, you'll compete in the full year and drive in every rally. Fall foul on a stage or damage the Focus beyond immediate repair and you'll be retired from that particular rally without the all-important championship points. The driving seat beckons at the beginning of the next rally, but points will have to be made up to stand a chance of becoming a champion. Review There are rally games and there are rally games--and then there's Colin McRae Rally 3. It's difficult to know where to start with the third instalment of this hugely successful franchise: the eye-wateringly sharp graphics; the intuitive gameplay or the understated, superb commentary and sound. As you'd expect from a top rally sim, everything about the vehicles can be customised, and tinkering under the hood between stages really produces a difference. If you're a bad driver you can also see the difference, as tearing the hood, side panels, or windows out mid-stage reveals an astonishing level of detail within the car. Engine parts move, suspension arms judder, and Mr McRae himself bounces around the car's cockpit in full 3-D. With a variety of gameplay modes ranging from single races to three-season tours of duty as McRae himself, there's plenty of bang for your buck here--and by the time you've cannoned off the scenery for the umpteenth time you'll know what bangs are all about. Thankfully code masters have resisted the temptation to fill Colin McRae Rally 3 with discordant music tracks, relegating the score to intro and menu screens and leaving the in-game sound to codriver commentary and a multitude of engine sounds--a pleasant change in an age where licensed soundtracks are king. The strongest element of this game, though, is the gameplay. The car handling is dead-on and in wild weather (snow, rain and fog) guiding a speeding Ford Focus around sharp bends is a real art form. -- Chris Russell
