Operation Winback (PS2) Platform: PlayStation2 Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Description Review If you can play Operation Winback for more than five minutes without thinking of Metal Gear Solid then you're either suffering from amnesia or probably refer to all video games as "Space Invaders" and have only turned the PS2 on by accident thinking it was the VCR. It's kind of a cross between the stealthy shoot-'em-up bits in Metal Gear Solid and a more arcade style game like Time Crisis. Unfortunately this means it's Time Crisis without the non-stop action and Metal Gear Solid without the variety and complex storyline. Oh, and the main bad guy is called Kenneth and the elite commando team to which you belong is known as SCAT. Although Operation Winback is less than the sum of its parts it's still fun. Hiding behind crates and jumping out to shoot unsuspecting bad guys is undoubtedly entertaining, even if the slightly fiddly controls sometimes get in the way. Unfortunately there's not much more to the game than that so it does get rather repetitive--although the various multiplayer modes do make up for this to some degree. If you can't wait for Metal Gear Solid 2 then this is a reasonable but not outstanding stopgap. -- David Jenkins Manufacturer's Description You are dropped by a careering helicopter gunship directly into the terrorist base. The original mission must still be accomplished; the world's safety depends on it. You don't know where your comrades are or whether they are alive at all. It will take all your cunning, stealth and ingenuity to survive; your skill as a commando will determine the fate of the world. As Jean Luc Cougar - member of the elite S.C.A.T commando force. Your mission is to regain control of the GULF Strategic Weapons System, Mission Winback. This satellite is capable of destroying several square miles at a time and it's in dangerous hands! The satellite's destructive capabilities have earned it the nickname "Sword of Angels". The terrorists make no demands. They plan to attack the European country of Argent indiscriminately. One of the development team's goals was to provide a new playing experience for shooting game fans. The decision was made to go with an over-the-shoulder view because it gives players more control over character movements than the traditional first person shooter. Only a 3rd person view could accurately represent all of the motions, including the thrilling "swing-out" feature, which allows players to use walls and objects for cover; pop out to squeeze off a few rounds and then drop back under cover as the enemy retaliates. The sighting mechanism also benefits from this third person point of view. WinBack uses a laser sighting technique rather than the traditional crosshairs method. Once mastered, this allows for precise control over where you aim and therefore fire. This perspective also allows for other cool effects, such as flashlights attached to your weapons to light up dark areas. Another feature, which sets this title apart from previous Covert Operations games, is the freedom to approach each mission in different ways. There may be times when it is more prudent to use stealth and take out enemies quickly and quietly, but there may also be times when players feel that blasting their way through enemy lines with sheer force is the most expedient course. This freedom provides a high level of player interaction for a more thrilling, more player-orientated gaming experience.

Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc.: Scare Island (PSone) Platform: PlayStation Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information Train to be a Top Kid Scarer at the Monster Academy and join the scream team! Players can choose to play as Mike or Sulley; each monster has his own special moves Lots of special items to collect, including trampolines and flingshots A host of unique scare tactics to discover and over fifteen huge zones to explore Product Description An all-action adventure featuring the stars of Disney/Pixar's latest blockbuster, Monsters, Inc. Since the very first bedtime, children all over the world have known that once their parents tuck them into bed and turn off the light, there are MONSTERS hiding in their wardrobes, waiting to emerge. But what they don't know is that these monsters scare children because they have to. It's nothing personal. It's just their job. And now monster mania is on its way to you! The mix of heart-warming storyline, endearing characters and frightening, funny humour combine to give the ultimate animated movie experience. Review If you're into Monsters, Inc. you'll love this game, a colourful and child-friendly offering that brings the characters from the Pixar/Disney blockbuster to a PlayStation near you. The aim of the game is simple enough: progress through the levels by scaring a set number of robotic children ("nerves") and collecting your standard platform currency--coins. The game itself is a movie tie-in, but not a game of the movie; the plot doesn't follow the film's at all, instead pursuing Mike and Sulley's training at the Monsters, Inc. Scare Academy. Each level is presented more as a puzzle rather than a story progression; clips from the movie are included in between levels, but they don't really bear any relevance to the action at your fingertips. The gameplay uses elements from Crash Bandicoot, Banjo Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon: jump, spin, bounce--all your standard platform moves are here. However, this isn't a bad thing, as kids will love it. It's a fun, not overly complicated platformer, which does its job; if however you want an original gaming experience then maybe this isn't for you.-- Laurent S Hall

Blair Witch Volume 1: Rustin Parr (PC) Platform: Windows 98, Windows 95 Condition: New This Title Also Available As: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition games available Please get in touch for information on these options. Product Information 1 of 3 games expanding on the story of The Blair Witch Project Supernatural action/adventure game Play as Doc Holliday, lead investigator Collect evidence, investigate local legend, and analyze crime scene Use a host of weapons to defend yourself from mortal and spectral enemies Product Description Review Some enjoyed making up their own monster in the original film that spawned this game The Blair Witch Project Vol 1: Rustin Parr, others felt cheated. Just in time for the first sequel this Halloween, the game is intended to be part of a trilogy. The loading screen starts to set up the atmosphere with weird random freakish noises like children crying, but since the game requires 850Mb HDD space and isn't the fastest loader around, this soon becomes irritating. You control Doc Holiday--a female doctor rather than the male gunslinger--in her quest to unravel the mystery of the Blair Witch. The story setup and the training mission are combined into one. It is certainly the best time to get accustomed to the extreme third-person angles of the game, though Resident Evil fans won't have much trouble adjusting. You still have to readjust your control method because different camera angles cause different character directions onscreen although the controls remain the same, which is no real problem for Tomb Raider fans, but it's the second time one of the features of Blair Witch Vol.1 has been better executed elsewhere and your technique needs to be totally relearned. One nice feature however, is the first-person night vision, which is deliberately blurred to recreate the film's night video view feel. Since at least two more episodes are due for release by Gathering of Developers, don't kid yourself that it's all over when you get to the end. The game is average and open-minded gamers will give it a try, and persevere if they are fans of the other action/adventure series mentioned. If not, this game is a like-or-hate affair, just like the film, and shouldn't be bought without trying a demo first. -- Kenneth Henry Manufacturer's Description Set in 1941, the first adventure pits Government special investigator Doc Holliday against the ancient evil that drove hermit Rustin Parr to abduct and slay seven children in Burkittsville, Maryland. Along the way, she has to interact with stricken townspeople, investigate hidden legends and arcane rituals, and seek to unravel a twisted mystery that still haunts the town. Rustin Parr combines traditional adventure elements, research, exploration and puzzle solving plus a healthy dose of heart-pounding action to create a terrifying gaming experience.

Release Date: 14 Sep Features: Highly detailed 3D gaming environment New first-person perspective mode during battles makes you feel you are in the fights 180 degree turning makes it easier to avoid oncoming zombies Brand new footage explains some of the mysteries and insidious plots surrounding Wesker from the original Resident Evil   Product Description ReviewIt's rather ironic that Resident Evil Code: Veronica X has rejuvenated the PS2's fortunes in Japan, because it's essentially identical to the original, year-old version on the Dreamcast. Code: Veronica is, however, a superb game that deserves as large an audience as possible, lest its heady mix of action, puzzles and lots and lots of zombies goes unappreciated by the masses. Unlike previous games in the series Code: Veronica is portrayed entirely in 3-D--although the atmospheric camera maintains an essentially static viewpoint for most of the time. The amazing graphics are obviously the main draw but you'll also find that some of the more irritating foibles of the series have been ironed out--such as the scarcity of ammo and camera angles that make combat unfairly difficult. The "X" at the end of the game's name indicates that this is a special edition, but the new stuff is limited to a couple of extra camera angles and some new cut scenes with uber-baddy Wesker. In terms of extras the most interesting aspect of the package is actually a demo of the forthcoming Devil May Cry. But unless you've already got the Dreamcast version, buy this for the game and treat the other stuff as a bonus because survival horror doesn't get any better than this. -- David Jenkins Product Description Just when Claire though she had all she could take of zombie and corporate goons, things really start to get hairy. Control both Chris and Claire Redfield as you try to get the brother-sister duo out a South American prison. Its take more than horse sense to break out of this mess youll be armed to the hilt with knives, crossbows, a Beretta M93R, grenade launchers, shotguns, Uzis, and more. There are major improvements to the background and character detail in this awesome installment of RESIDENT EVIL.   Highly detailed 3D gaming environment New first-person perspective mode during battles makes you feel you are in the fights 180 degree turning makes it easier to avoid oncoming zombies Brand new footage explains some of the mysteries and insidious plots surrounding Wesker from the original Resident Evil   Tested and works great! Intense boss battles ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ battle it out against gamma-enhanced super villains like Flux, Rampage and Half Life Hollywood quality VO and soundtrack featuring detailed voice over from Eric Bana as Bruce Banner Take down the Hulk¿¿¿¿¿s foes with over 25 devastating attacks, including super attacks like the Sonic Clap and Gamma Slam Product Description Review If you're not content with just watching Hulk on the screen or reading about him in comics and want to be the big green beast--and if you like the punishment of super villainy to involve as much collateral damage as possible--then step right up for some true video gaming mayhem. Based loosely on the Ang Lee movie, Hulk the game casts you as the weedy Bruce Banner, who rather inconveniently turns into a giant green monster whenever he gets annoyed (good job he doesn't take the London Underground to work or he'd burst a blood vessel). Although the movie features only human bad guys the video game features a number of the Hulk's comic-book enemies, including big-headed bad guy the Leader. At first glimpse the game appears to be a fairly ordinary 3-D scrolling beat-'em-up, but it manages to spice things up via the fact that you actually spend a significant part of the game as Bruce Banner, sneaking around army labs and the like in a manner that would make Solid Snake proud. No doubt Hulk combat is what you're really interested in, and here the game doesn't disappoint, with lots of moves and the ability to destroy just about anything within reach, including walls and even the floor beneath you. Simplistic it may be, but it's good fun for those with a short attention span. -- David Jenkins Manufacturer's Description One year after the events that take place in the film; troubled scientist Bruce Banner and his enraged alter ego, the Hulk, are forced into battle against the terrifying forces of the Leader, whos intent on using the Hulks gamma energy to unleash a relentless army of gamma creatures on the world.

In Resident Evil Code: Veronica X players control Claire at the beginning of the game and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to stop Umbrella's devious plans. -- David Jenkins

Product Information Highly detailed 3D gaming environment New first-person perspective mode during battles makes you feel you are in the fights 180 degree turning makes it easier to avoid oncoming zombies Brand new footage explains some of the mysteries and insidious plots surrounding Wesker from the original Resident Evil Product Description Resident Evil Code: Veronica X begins as Claire Redfield leaves Raccoon City for Europe, headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation, in search of her brother Chris and to solve the mystery surrounding Umbrella Corporation's secretive activities. In her search she is captured and sent to an isolated prison on a desolate Island. While it remains unexplained how Chris, one of the original S.T.A.R.S. team members, appears in Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, players will be reacquainted with his iron will and munitions expertise to seek the truth behind the dreaded Umbrella biotoxins. In Resident Evil Code: Veronica X players control Claire at the beginning of the game and later assume the role of Chris Redfield in their efforts to stop Umbrella's devious plans. One of the many features that make Code Veronica different from previous Resident Evil games is the Real World System (RWS). Now when Claire opens doors, solves puzzles, stores items or ammunition, they remain in the same spot when playing the second half of the game as Chris. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X contains never-before-seen footage that focuses on battles between Chris and the enigmatic character, Wesker, and sheds new insight into the ominous Resident Evil story line. Flesh-eating zombies, horrific beasts and even stranger mutations have spread on a global scale! Just how far does this twisted conspiracy extend? What is Umbrella Corporation really up to? And who is behind this bio-tech terror? To her horror, Claire discovers Umbrella Corporation's insidious activities are not isolated to the remote, mid-western city. No. Something much larger is going on here. Review It's rather ironic that Resident Evil Code: Veronica X has rejuvenated the PS2's fortunes in Japan, because it's essentially identical to the original, year-old version on the Dreamcast. -- David Jenkins

Metal Gear Solid - Platinum Platform: PlayStation Condition: New Other versions of this game available from us: Platform: Pre-Owned/Used: Very Good Condition copies available Product Information A great PlayStation favourite Gameplay emphasizes stealth over firepower and cunning over force Includes VR Missions More than 30 different offensive and defensive weapons Product Description Review You are Solid Snake, a super spy who is half James Bond, half Snake Plissken, and you are mean. Your mission isn't terribly new (infiltrate a terrorist base and blow everything up), but the gameplay is: your numerous enemies are watching for you, and you are encouraged to sneak rather than simply charge in. Every level brings new challenges. You fight snipers, invisible ninjas, psychic warriors and even an M-1 tank! As the father of the modern spy-game genre, this game is an instant classic. Your allies and superiors speak to you via a cool, implanted radio, monitoring your progress, offering tips--but failing to give you the full story. The combination of a mysterious and engaging plot and high in-game tension makes this a thrilling ride. Campy humour also abounds as you rescue beautiful women, verbally spar with your allies and blow up enemies in the bathroom. A user-friendly control interface allows for sniping, hiding, crawling and running, and the graphics leave nothing to be desired. If you like espionage, spy movies, or just want to own and play a piece of gaming history, then this is a must-have. Metal Gear Solid is one of the all-time greats. Game tip: Secretly attach plastic explosives behind an enemy, sneak out of the room, and see what happens. -- Allen Stewart
