Cape Town (Western Cape)
This is a lithographic pencil drawing by Charles Peers, a listed South African artist. The frame is very nice and would cost a few hundred rand alone these days. Ready to hang on your wall. The artist draws in pencil on treated stone and a limited number of prints are impressed from the treated stone. Much better quality than an ordinary print. Note no dot marks when detail is enlarged. In fact it looks exactly like a pencil drawing, even under magnification, so most people don't know the difference. Picture is 31 x 24 cm, more in frame. Released in limited numbers in , you do see these kinds of scenes by Charles Peers but they are rare, coming up for auction very occasionally. This is a particularly well done scene. Charles Peers was born in Ireland in and died in Higgovale Cape Town in . He studied at Liverpool School of Art and the famous Slade School of Art in London. He exhibited widely and is in all of South Africa's major galleries including the National Gallery, who celebrated the centenary of his birth with a prestige exhibition of 55 works. Much respected by fellow artists, at age 64 he was asked to join the "New Group" (which contained artists such as Boonzaier, Lipshitz, McCaw, and Frieda Lock). Known for his interesting angles, viewpoints, draughtsmanship, and depiction of light. Secure packaging and tracked postage only R65. We are Treasure House, an established brick and mortar shop selling South African art from our gallery for over 17 years.
