Product Information 20 missions situated in exotic locations Choice of 1st or 3rd person viewpoints Mid-mission save options Enhanced inventory system shopping New ranking system Multiple styles of play Massive arsenal of weapons Advanced level design & engine dynamics Product Description Hitman 2: Silent Assassin (Xbox) (U) Review Eidos' stylish, strategic and almost puzzle-like Hitman 2 makes its console debut, managing to address many of the criticisms that haunted the PC original while still falling short of its potential. The premise sets up the player as a genetically modified hit man, forced out of retirement when things get a little personal. Each level then sets up an overall mission, broken down into sub-objectives, thankfully with a much-requested save-game feature included in case things get a little hairy. This isn't your standard walk-and-shoot kind of game, though; Hitman 2 rewards planning, and lots of it. While there's no fixed linear route through any of the levels, each will require a lot of thought to be defeated. What limits the game's potential though is the continual stream of frustrations. The enemy's artificial intelligence, for instance, is sometimes very sadly lacking, and there are occasions when the pace drops to snail-like speed, without always generating sufficient tension to carry the player through. That said, when it hits top gear Hitman 2 can be tense, atmospheric and enjoyable. Graphically it's very polished, and those who enjoy games that reward solid thinking more than an itchy trigger finger will certainly find something to enjoy. But while undoubtedly a step forward from its predecessor, it's an ambitious game that still falls short of what could have been. Put simply, it's good, it's challenging, but it still leaves quite a lot of room for improvement. -- Jon Foster

Third-person action shooter from Io Interactive, also released on consoles. Players assume the role of "47," a retired hitman who was once considered the best in his particular field. The title opens up as 47 is living peacefully in Sicily and trying to cope with some of the horrible atrocities he committed in his dark, mysterious past. Shortly after attending confession, 47 learns that his priest and mentor has been kidnapped by the mafia, and so he decides to temporarily come out of retirement to get him back. Carnage, naturally, ensues. The game jettisons players through 20 missions that span across such areas as Sicily, Japan, St. Petersburg, India and even Malaysia.

Hitman: Contracts is a third-person stealth game. Players take the role of “47”, a hitman who is unlucky enough to get shot, and falls to the floor dying. The whole game takes place in “flashbacks”, where 47 is reminiscing about past missions, some of which were previously seen inHitman: Codename 47, the first game from the Hitman series. Gameplay in Hitman: Contracts is similar to the previous installments. Your job will be to complete several missions which involve assassinating targets all over the world. You can sneak around in disguise to avoid the suspicious guards, or you can instead open fire on everyone you see. When you complete your mission, you’re given a rating – from “Mass Murderer” up to the coveted “Silent Assassin”. If you manage to complete a mission with a “Silent Assassin” rating, you receive a reward: a special weapon (such as dual sawed-off shotguns), and you can try playing a previously completed mission using one of the special weapons.
