This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 4 - 8 working days Mel Botes s music reflects his passion, exuberant creativity and a mind that questions everything: sense and purpose but also boundaries, consciousness and reality. It abounds with contrasting qualities sometimes bittersweet, painfully beautiful, sad; dramatic, majestic, inspiring, compelling; sometimes disturbing, tempestuous, with explosions of sound that surprise; sometimes strange, even eerie but NEVER boring! No surprise then that Mel made his memorable debut on the local music scene in 1998 with a concept show, a rock concert and album. David's Confession evolved from his continuing fascination with winged creatures and man s desire to fly. Strictly speaking, I don t consider it autobiographical in any way, but I do relate to the universal theme of the struggle between good and evil, and the power of music to influence moral choices. It can be employed for good or evil. His first Afrikaans album, Oomblik van Waansin (with a title that is a tribute to Pink Floyds Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a deeply personal and lyrical chronicle of his own journey: It is about the way I grew up, my mom and dad, social influences. In 2001 he won a Geraas Award as the Best Songwriter in Afrikaans for Oomblik van Waansin. Mel's affinity for conceptual stage shows was demonstrated again in 2005 with the musical play Flight of Bird during the Aardklop Arts Festival in Potchefstroom. The production was nominated for an AngloGold Ashanti Smeltkroes Award. Composing soundtracks for movies and television drama has become one of his ways of expressing and stretching himself musically. He has created songs and incidental music for Song for Katryn 2 (with Valiant Swart), The Hitchhiker, Andries Plak, Running Riot with Bill Flynn, Dryfsand and Rainbow Skellums. His genial talent can not be described with words; it must be experienced. Go on, you are being challenged About Dans In Die Weerlig: This highly anticipated album is Mels first Afrikaans album in 7 years! All the self-penned material tackles a wide range of topics with a real brow raiser in Siener. The album show a more commercial side of Mel with great sing along guitar driven tracks. It concludes with the title track DANS IN DIE WEERLIG which is a reminder of Mels talent as a poet and shapeshifter! Distinguished Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos directs the great Marcello Mastroianni in this extraordinary and beautifully photographed tale of self-discovery. Mastroianni plays Spyros, a schoolmaster of late middle-age who, like his father before him, is also a beekeeper. Disenchanted and unfulfilled by his life, Spyros takes leave of his wife and grown children to embark on a solitary journey in search of the emerging springtime flowers for his cherished beehives. Moving from village to village, he encounters a young girl hitchhiker who awakens in him feelings that start to become an obsession. Charged with quiet emotional intensity, The Beekeeper is a moving and powerful film about a man s struggle to find release from the spectre of the past.
