From the vaults of The SF Gateway, the most comprehensive digital library of classic SFF titles ever assembled, comes an ideal introduction to the fantastic work of one of the Golden Age's most influential writers, Henry Kuttner. Henry Kuttner sold his first story WEIRD TALES in early 1936 and was, with his wife, fellow writer C. L. Moore, a regular contributor to John W. Campbell's ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION. He and Moore collaborated for most of the 1940s and 1950s, but his career was tragically cut short in 1958, when he suffered a fatal heart attack. This omnibus contains two of his major novels, which have been out of print for many years - FURY and MUTANT - and collection THE BEST OF HENRY KUTTNER. Format:Paperback

This newly redesigned edition sports a new cover by Miller - some of his first comics art in years! Stuck with nothing but a seedy gumshoe job and some demons, Dwight's thinking of all the ways he's screwed up and what he'd give for one clear chance to wipe the slate clean, to dig his way out of the numb gray hell that is his life. And he'd give anything. Just to feel the fire. One more time. But he can't let himself lose control again, can't ever let the monster out. And then Ava calls. With a new look generating more excitement than ever before, this third edition is the perfect way to attract a whole new generation of readers to Frank Miller's masterpiece!

2016. Soft cover; 291 pages. Very good condition. Under 1kg Among those who accompanied the first Bishop of Pretoria to the Transvaal from England in 1878 was Henry Adams, a former bank clerk-turned-theological student, who was commissioned by a small English newspaper to write about their travels. BOUND FOR PRETORIA brings together his articles about the voyage aboard the steamship Danube and the arduous four-month ox-wagon trek that followed—first through Natal, drought stricken and preparing for war, and then up and over the Draken sberg into the Transvaal. The Anglo-Zulu War broke out within days of their arrival in Pretoria in early 1879. The young writer then produced detailed accounts about conditions in that small town when war, rebellion and resistance were in the air at every turn. Henry Adams’ duties as a founder member of the English Church in the Transvaal soon took precedence over his budding career as a writer. The articles he wrote about the journey were completely forgotten and when his death 13 years later was ruled a suicide, Henry Adams himself was also quickly forgotten. His descendants knew little more than that one of their ancestors had been a priest and that he had killed himself. This collection introduces Henry Adams to his descendants through his travel writings, which were found in 2015 by one of his great-granddaughters.

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days Jonathan Sumption's Cursed Kings is the eagerly anticipated fourth volume in what Allan Massie has called "one of the great historical works of our time." Cursed Kings tells the story of the destruction of France by the madness of its king and the greed and violence of his family. In the early fifteenth century France, Europe's strongest and most populous state, suffered a complete internal collapse. As the warring parties within fought for the spoils of the kingdom under the vacant gaze of the mad King Charles VI, the country was left at the mercy of one of the most remarkable rulers of the European Middle Ages: Henry V of England, who had destroyed the French army on the field of Agincourt in October 1415 and left most of France's leadership dead. Sumption recounts in extraordinary detail the relentless campaign of conquest that brought Henry to the streets and palaces of Paris within just a few years. He died at the age of thirty-six in a French royal castle in 1422, just two months before he would have become king of France. Six centuries later, these extraordinary events are overlaid by the resounding words of Shakespeare and the potent national myths of England and France. In Cursed Kings, Jonathan Sumption strips away the layers to rediscover the personalities and events that lie beneath. Features Summary The eagerly anticipated fourth volume of Jonathan Sumption's prize-winning history of the Hundred Years War. Book is one of  the set shown BUT this one looks brand new and unread with bright gold titles.   >>>    Two Years Before the Mast  is a book by the American author Richard Henry Dana, Jr. written after a two-year sea voyage starting in 1834.  -   While at Harvard College, Dana had an attack of the measles, which affected his vision. Thinking it might help his sight, Dana, rather than going on a Grand Tour as most of his fellow classmates traditionally did (and unable to afford it anyway) and being something of a non-conformist, left Harvard to enlist as a common sailor on a voyage around Cape Horn on the brig Pilgrim. He returned to Massachusetts two years later aboard the Alert (which left California sooner than the Pilgrim).  -   He kept a diary throughout the voyage, and after returning he wrote a recognized American classic,  Two Years Before the Mast, published in 1840, the same year of his admission to the bar.  (Goodreads)

Occasional fox spot. Near-fine condition."Louis Henry Meurant combined enterprise and ability with high ideals, and his activities during his long and varied life illuminate many aspects of the history of South Africa during the nineteenth Century.. In 1828 he moved to Graaff-Reinet, and from there accompanied a party of hunters across the Orange River. On his return he bought the printing press of Godlonton and Stringfellow, which had previously been confiscated by Governor Donkin, and set up a Printing Works in Grahamstown, when only twenty years of age. The border Settlers immediately implored him to bring out a newspaper, and he decided to establish the Graham's Town Journal. Sixty Years Ago gives an interesting account of all that this involved, and includes many light-hearted anecdotes of life on the frontier in those perilous days. The first number appeared on December 30th 1831, and in 1832 Godlonton joined Meurant as partner, and was thus re-united with the printing press that had originally been his." L. H. Meurant: Sixty Years Ago; or, Reminiscences of the Struggle for the Freedom of the Press in South Africa and the Establishment of the First Newspaper in the Eastern Province
